Can antone give me anymore info on the way the stock fans work

Each fan has 4 cables , 3 switched via relays and 1 negi

different relays switching alters fan speed but how ??? looking at the wiring diagrams it looks like they all carry 12v , anyone enlighten me

I'm curious because I've just installed a new rad with new fans which only have a posi and negi to each , Pip has told mw to connect to the red/yellow on one fan and white on the other , looking at the wiring diagram this makes sense , basically means the fans will operate when relays 2 and 4 switch ( think these are done via the ECU , would there be any advantage in splicing all 3 +v to the +v on the new fan i.e would this cause the fan to operate more often ???

Just looking at different ways to ensure cool runing , also I'm looking into a way of making the fans over run once ignition has been turned off via either a timer or thermostat , this could also be used to keep an electric water pump running aswell , any ideas ???

Did you ever get to the bottom of this buddy as i am in the same boat at the moment?

I ended up connecting as Pip advised , after looking through all the wiring diagrams and doing some reading I came to the conclusion that the other connections on the stock fans are used to increase fan speed and my new fans are only single speed fans

I found the easiest way to do it was to run the new cabling from the stock fan plugs by using female spade crimps also you could run both new fans off one plug or like I did seperate , if you wire each one seperate they will come on at different temps , if you only wire off one plug make sure you come off the 1st fan plug or your fans won't kick in till the water temps get higher

Thanks buddy, i have just spoken to an auto electrician friend and he suggested the other 2 wires are run through a resisitor to alter fan speeds! When you say 1st plug, do you mean left or right fan as you are looking from the front of the car?

I think fan one is the one on the left if your looking fom the front of the car but I'm not 100% , your new fan(s) are they a twin fan or a single ? if its a twin its probably better to feed each new fan off seperate cables so it works like stock but only at single speed instead of 3 speeds

Thanks buddy, i really want both fans operating at the same time, dont want one to come on then the other, would prefer to over cool (if that makes sense) than have one come on and then the other as temps rise!
