Hello all, another newby here

Hello all,

First thing I want to point out is that I bought a 1st Generation rev 2 that cost me £300. And to be honest it is a bit of a shed. But that is the point. I bought this car as my Dori*Car, or Drift :censored::censored::censored::censored:ter.
Meaning that my main aim is to get the 7 very sideways as often as possible!

It does have a few problems though (what did I expect for 300 quid?)

First off, it has a nasty oil leak. I think it maybe the oil pump, but a mechanic friend is going to have a look,
Next the brakes pull to the right, they are new brakes all round, but I think that the calipers need some adjustment
And last (but probably not least) the blowers don’t work, I mean, I have a heater, but no fan to move it around, or clear the windscreen.

All of these faults are going to be checked this weekend, and hopefully fixed, but I was wondering whether any of these are ‘common’ faults, or if there is anything else I should worry about.

Hi Rob, nice one mate!

Where is the oil leak coming from? the oil pump is actually contained within the front cover of the engine.

I doubt it would be the brakes that pull to the right - it would more likely be the wheel alignment, have it checked out and adjusted if needs be.

You checked the fuses for the blower? there should be a fuse I think.

The leak is coming from the nearside of the block, low down towards the front, near the oil cooler.

The allignment will be checked this weekend,

and the fuses are all ok.

TBH, my mechanic friend will probably solve all the problems with it this weekend, but I thought I would say hello and find out if there are any 'common' problems.

One other thing I forgot to ask,

Does the 1st gen rev 2 have LSD as standard?

sounds like it might be a cracked oil cooler or similar ( they crack where the lines connect to the oil cooler) or if iit is leaking from the block near the mazda logos it could be an oil O ring (not terminal but its an engine rebuild to sort it)

None of the 1st gens sold in the UK have LSD's as standard.

Its possible that tha oil leak could be (as Mike mentioned) tha oil cooler - this is a fairly common problem among first gens - should not cost to much to fix and can quite often git them welded (not normal welding mind you) - got mine done in oz for around 20 quid -

The first gens are generally ok in most respects id be looking at checking tha compression and doing an all round fluid change and tha things you have already noted..

Maybe just look at tha rust situation on tha rear hatch ledge can git pretty nasty back there...
