Now being a perfectionist [read paranoid pain in the arsehttp://smilies.networkessence.net/s/contrib/sarge/Blurp_anim.gif] how about a clicky at the top of the main page where you can view threads in order of which they have been posted on?
I know there is already the useful view new posts bit which is great but potentially you can click on that & then open up all the new threads etc then maybe post a few replies to these & jobs a good un but in the mean time someone has also replied to another thread or started a new topic which wouldnt then show up if you were to then click new posts? That's the way it seemed to work to me & i maybe a tad unusual in that i always have dozens of windows open at any one time hence why i often may take a while replying & thus potentially missing owt new but such a tool wood be of use IMO http://www.paulsxp.com/smilies/otn/wink/thumb.gif

What you described is exactly what view new posts already does.
Click it the first time and you see all the new ones. Read/reply to what you want, and then when you back on the list click refresh and anything with a new reply will be back towards the top in Gold to indicate you havnt read it.

yeah but it's not foolproofas with my example:
i'm at work open MRC click new posts it may come up with a couple of dozen, all good so far....
then say nasty boss comes in to distract me from my fun work to the evils of my job <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_4_100.gif' border=0></a>
So i quickly shut all internet windows down...
then when i next go into MRC it thinks i have already been in however many minutes previous & so then only tells me new posts since that time rather than including the couple of dozen i hadn't had a chance to read :(
Now i maybe being a prat & doing sumin wrong & equally i know it aint the most importnant thing in the world but it would be of benefit to me at least if you could view posts in date order rather than just from when it thinks i was last logged into MRC.
Does that make sense? (i'm sure i occasional do http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/otn/wink/1bluewinky.gif lol)

I know what u mean Si, i have same problem although its caused by browser windows mysteriously shutting down for no reason or crappy AOL losing connection, v. annoying http://cmw.dailymoviereviews.com/contrib/edoom/let_it_all_out.gif
especially when theres about 50 posts and you havent even finished first page..

Why not have a "all posts (or active threads) in the last 24 hours" cat????
This works well on other forums, Paul:)

yeah my IE does crash a fair bit as well but it's kinda hard askin IT department to fix it kuz it's making my not doing any work difficult http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/blackeye/evil_laughterpurple.gif lol
I may torment my bro to see how easy it is to add such a clicky but dont wana risk killing forum by trying modifications by guesswork http://cmw.dailymoviereviews.com/contrib/blackeye/Eyecrazy.gif or without approval for that matter.
