I've noticed some fluid which is leaking from the centre rear area about an arms length in. It seems to have a slight fragrance to it, doesn't smell like petrol, perhaps more of an oil?

Sounds like it'll be coming from the diff. Kinda has an oily sweet sort of fragrance to it?

Yes. I've just stuck my head under with a torch. It's oily underneath it and the diff is, for want of a better word, saturated and shiny with oil but not dripping if you follow me?

1) Where do I top that up / check the level?
2) Are leaks generally repairable? If not, where and how much is a replacement?

Thanks.

Generally the leaks should be repairable. It's likely to be an oil seal on the input of one of the output shafts. The best thing to do is have a look in the service manual on http://www.rx7city.com/93manual.htm

You can check the level by undoing the topmost plug on the rear of the casing about half way up. It's a bit of a pig to get to, and needs a 20-something mm spanner or socket. Just poke your finger in it and you should be able to feel the fluid level with your finger. Make sure the car is level while you do this. If you can't feel the fluid, top it up till it dribbles out the hole.

Diagnosed and cured. Not a seal failure after all - the plug on the drain was loose :2Confused

Thanks to RoTechniks for investigating, no charge either.

Happy days. :cheers
