View Full Version : Replacing manifold gasket and intake gasket

Hi all,

Having only had my car back from rebuild for a little while, it has developed an exhaust leak. Seems like the manifold gasket and intake gasket need doing already (think they were leaking slightly when I got the car back).

So is it an engine out job, or has anyone got any tips for doing these gaskets with the engine in place?

And if it is engine out does anyone have a ballpark figure? I haven't got a garage or driveway to work in at the mo.

Even though its a job that can be done (but is a pain in the rear) i'd take it back to the guy who rebuilt it and have him do it (even if you have to pay for the work).

The reason i say this is thinks like that could Void your Warantee if a Larger problem shows up.

But before you do that, jack it up and see if you can get a spaner on any of the manifold nuts, if so see if they are tight (often if the wrong nuts are put on when its being rebuilt they can become loose and so be an easyer fix)

Unfortunately the garage is a long, long way away so just the cost of getting the car there is a bit high for what 'm hoping will be a simple (ish) job.

Haven't had chance to check the nuts yet, but I'm guessing that the gasket will have blown out.

it shouldnt be an engine out job, we could do the exhaust gasket on our FD tripple without taking the engine out, and the inlet should be a doddle if you are also taking the exhaust manifold off aswell.

Sorry i thought it was a Twin Turbo FD. (Nasty job to get at the Inlet with the Engine in)

If its got a Single Turbo on Tony's right should'nt be end of he earth stuff.

That's good to hear. Just got to find time to get it done now.

Tell me about this, I have a TT FD and the car developed a leak as it was being mapped. Now stuck without it for another 2 weeks as REWorx are chokka.

I haven't even taken delivery of the car yet :(

That sucks, but trust me when I say its worth getting everything sorted before you collect the car.

So long as its the manifold and not the turbo gasket its easy.

If its the latter then its a turbo off job, the first time I removed mine I'd have a guess at saying it took me about 12 hours :(
