Should be O/K because FD wheels are 8in with 255's
I will have a look at the size tyres that are on the back of our FC as they are pretty big on a 16in rim.
Cheers Clive.

I'm sure Rich is correct!
You really need a 9 inch rim for a 255 tyre.
FD rims are 8 inch with 225 stock size, people with 17 inch rims use 255 but not on an 8 inch rim!

Ooops, not a good arguement; I just remembered one of Max's favoured past times is shooting those same cute, fluffy bunny-wunnys with his shot gun!! :D

they don't do 255 in 16" but the recommended rim width for a 255 on a 17 is 8.5" minimum - 10" maximum.
in general it is best to use the narrowest tyre that will fit on the rim or vica versa the widest rim allowable for the tyre width

255 is pretty normal on a 17 inch rim - both my 17's have 255s on the back.
I cant remember the width of the rim, was 8.5 I think but might of been 9.5

Right you lot I've been out to look at my cars and found 255's on my 17in / 8in Rears on the FD and 225's on 16in on the FC now then l still have my anorak on and have looked in my Mazda parts book and found FD's on 17's have 8in on the front with 235's and have 255 on 8.5in rears .
So where are we now then, A, l was wrong with my previous post [ Doh sorry Rich ] but B l run 255's on my 8in rims on my FD and l am quite happy with the result so our l am happy to say to our friend who started this thread with his question yes you should be O/K to run with 255's on your 8in rims without to may bad side effects.
On an old Gen 2 that l had l used to run l had 255 on a 15in rim on the back with no rubbing problems.
O dear I'm takin me anorak off now and going for a lie down after all that brain stuff, well you lot wait till you get to my age and senile watsit sets in !!
