Guys
im not a mazda man
I have a race car with mazda engine and just found this site
so i thought i would let you know that the Japanese raced Sports cars with mazda engines from 1972
My car is a Lola t290 race car with 12a then later 13b mazda fitted
won th efuji 500 km race in 1980 or 81
I have restored the car and will look to race it soon a few things to get finished before we get exhaust made and engine dyno run
no idea how to post fotos but i have a few to wet your appetite:2Confused

Well im impressed with that fotoshack thing !!:wiggle
i will look to add in afew more pics of the car being stripped rebuilt if yr interested
briefly the pics are the car when i bought it from Fuji museum before it was redeveloped
car in may with most parts on the car then the bodyin the paint shop then centre section on the chassis to see how it looked
the magazine fotos show off the various cars that my car raced against
som had mazda engines some ford and bmw motors
My car originally ran in 197 & 73 with the originial lola T290 bodywork and Mitusbishi engine car crashed at year end race on the High speed banking and was sold
74 it had 12 a fitted
75 car was sold again raced once with new owner HUGE crash:flamed
reappeared in 76 with an ugly body:mad:
77 they fitted the March 74S body and 13b motor and it raced till 80 or 81 in this format
i have fotos of the car in its early days
i think 5 march 74s cars raced with Mazda motors and a few lolas
I bought the car with empty engne (12a) and gearbox
spent the last 3 years restoring the car and found 13B in usa for less than the dry sump kit costs :InLove
rebuilt that -so far it had dyno run 249.5 hp at 70000 then it stopped revving and power fell off the chart!:flamed
we have HUGE oil made now so car can be assembled soon to go and have exhaust made then put on a dyno rolling road thing to get the revs upto 9000 rpm and power i hope to be 300 hp
once i have the car running i can assess whether i get another engine built (maybe Fuel injected? ) or run the car as it is:burnout
My plan is to do some BRITSPORT or V deV endurance events maybe some Orwell Supersports historic events- a Chevron B16 Mazda car runs there too

Hello and Welcome to MRC and I wish you well with your car that I can see has already become a huge wonderful passion.
Please not only keep us informed of your cars progress at meetings but also remember that many people on here will try and assist if you need parts or any Rotary knowledge.

thanks for the comments i know 100% of firkall about rotaries and i think i iwlll leave it at that as im a lover:InLove not a fighter im a driver not a technician:driving
I bought the car so i may as well rebuild it with the motor it ran to me its histroy is in this format however in the racing world the purists will want to run it with Cosworth engine and original bodywork:Snoring
Lola built 102 290-292-294 -296/8 cars from 72 to 77 and i am looking at buying 1 of the early cars to have the "original " car spec for certain historic race series
I had placed the body in the body shape to repaint when i found the photos of the car running 73-76 in its original lola body and the car was 60% restored and too far to return to the lola spec
For instance the wheelbase is longer due to the March 74S body being added and the frames where cut off form the engine bay to locate the Lola body panels and i had re poweder coated it and fitted it so i was not turning back
Sadly the later body being fitted in 1977 is going to cause me some grief to run in Historic events- if i had the lola body fitted life would be easier:Grrr
I have painted the body in Le Man mazda colours as it seemed appropriate with the shape:evillaugh
YOU CERTAINLY WILL NOT MISS THE CAR ON THE TRACK!!!
1 advantage of the Mazda motor is it will go 2-3 seasons between rebuilds (my BMW F2 engine is 1000 miles and £8k to rebuild and that is perhaps 1 seasons racing if you chase a championship) it should have around 300 hp same as my F2 engine which will keep up with the other Lola Chevron 2 litre race cars:mmmm
I am posting more fotos on the shack site for you guys to salivate over:evillaugh

This is the car in 1978 with the March 74S body fitted and it ran through till 81 racing like this and i have rebuilt th ecar with this bodywork
http://img171.imageshack.us/slideshow/player.php?id=img171/4302/1157031927hw2.smil
Later I will host some pics of the car as we stripped it out for those who are interested then i can edit the whole script so all this blurb is 1 posting
I wonder if the webmaster will create amotosports page that this and items like mazda 787 etc can be placed on:guinness

like all good competition cars its got a bit of history. Love the paintjob it should stand out well for your sponsors !
mazola
31st August 2006, 05:01 PM
SPONSOR what sponsor? :3Confused
Do you have a proposal for me??:mmmm
would need £2-4 k per race from a sponsor to cover the basic clutch tyres fuel usage let alone engine gearbox wear n tear mechanics ££time
For Britsports endurance racing im seeking co driver with experience and ££ at £2500-3k per race in the UK and more for the V de V EEC races
Where do i place my cap for donations:Laugh
Oh the car is For Sale @ £75k

Lola mazda rebuild drags on and on hence but its not been a worry as $$ is tight and i have been busy with other car projects no updates
The car is in a shop having exhaust made since last winter and after some chasing for updates im told the car has fired up today first time but the starter is causing a problem due to flywheel being wrong type ie underneath motor as opposed to on top starter motor so new flywheel is being sourced
Hopefully in 10 days time its all sorted out and car can then go onto rolling road dyno for power run then i hope to have car ready to do a shake down test after that I will see how much $ is left to maybe do a race somewhere

I have now collected the car with a dyno sheet so now i know where the power is/ is not!
the motor is a bridge port 13b with 200 bhp and a good torque curve not a peripheral port motor that would have 270-300 bhp and has the 48 ida weber not athe larger carb
Plan is to now get the seat belt/seat fitting sorte dout fiddle with afew other things like geaometry set up and look to do a shake down test
I can race the car in a few Historic race car series
Orwell Supersports Masters proto 70`s and the French run Classis endurance series at various circuits through out Europe plus i can do some Sports GT race events in the UK but they tend to have the modern sports cars or radicals galore in them
I have found a fledgling french race series for sports cars of any age that may be of interest to me
The first thing is to run the car see what it can do then decide if i need to spend more money on the canine gonads of a motor to beat the Cossy BDG & BMW 300 hp cars
