well im on a roll today so ...
when i look down the side of the engine to where the exhaust comes out - it comes out in TWO seperate pipes
is this a standard thing - cause when i look at the haynes manual it shows as an exhaust block attached to the engine
thanks

Stu,
Turbo engines will have one pipe out the back of the turbo.
Non-turbo may have the two pipes, depending on whether or not the exhuast is standard.
Is yours the non-turbo model? (no bonnet scoop).

mine is a Non Turbo and it has 2 large exhaust pipe coming out of the engine - i was wondering if this is correct !
( not sure if it has an aftermarket exhaust but i have a reciept for a Jan Speed exhaust )

Yep - sounds like an aftermarket exhaust (nice!) the factory exhaust runs what they call a "Thermal Reactor" , or "Heat Exchanger" big round cast iron thing (looks completely different to what you have, and what is used on the turbo cars).

Yes - it would be better than standard for sure. I would only run Shell Optimax in it though (to make sure it is always running rich).

funny that you should mention that the car runs very rich ( you can smell the petrol )
i was gonna try and adjust the mixture/timing - maybe i should judst leave it ??
thanks

u can`t adjust mixture if u don`t have any piggyback or standalone ECU....
2 pipes from motor = header....on non turbo its way to get most power .....

A good exhaust on a non-turbo rotary can give you up to 25hp extra. So it would definitely be better than standard. The best way would be on a dyno yes.
