I have a 1989 Gen 2 RX7, Turbo 2, when I boot it , there is quite a considerable amount of vibration, I have tested the clutch applying the handbrake and the car stalls, when you boot it the revs go quite high whilist speeding up and I cannot find out what it could be I dont really want to take it to a garage unless I take out a second mortgage, any suggestions.

how long have you had the car? is it a new noise ? has it been getting worse over time. are the revs rising more than they use to when you floor it.
it could be that either the engine or gearbox mounts have given up and under accelaration you have metal to metal contact causing a vibration. it might be the exhaust touching somewhere.
it will only really be found if looked at by a mechanic. it doesnt have to go to a rotary garage for that just someone you trust

There is lots of things you can look at, does the noise get worse the quicker you go? or does it get better the quicker you go?Does it do it out of gear?Does it get worse or better with load?
There are many faults you could look at but the ones that i'd start with are Engine/Gearbox/Diff Mounts and check the Prop shaft for wear or damage (bolts missing etc)
You'll find the Mountings will make more noise when there is on off load on the engine (Like changing gear)
The Prop shaft will Vibrate more as the speed goes up.

The vibration is noticeable when the car is stationary, out of gear and reved up to 3000 RPM

Does it go when you press the Clutch down?
Also does it make a Noise or is it just a Vibration?

Re vibration a mate said it could be the flywheel out of balance which could be feasable the engine was rebuild by Mazda costing an absolute fortune we have 2 RX7's Turbo 2 one is 350 BHP, and one is standard with added vibration for effect it is when the car is standing and the engine is reved only no clutch or gear engaged,

At 8,500 rpm you will have no engine, the work was done by the previous owner it is something I want to sort out but no-one has any sensible answers for me

From what you have said i would put money on the clutch.
Basicly if you pick up a Bad Clutch plate a lump of friction material can brake off causing the Vibration as you say but still work ok.
Unlikly its the Flywheel as it would have flown apart by now if it had the sort of damage that would cause a vibration you could feel through the engine mountings etc? It could have lost one of the Six fixing bolts but as they are close to the center point i doubt you would notice the vibration?
Easy Guessing over the Net but this does'nt sound like a quick fix Job?
