I am looking for the general views on what rubber works well on 17's, i am running Kumho's at the moment and they seem to offer harly any traction. So guys, whats a good sticky rubber to use.

OK, here's a quick run down on the different types:
Toyo T1-S: Good level of traction in wet and dry. Wear rate not that bad, more on the budget side of things. They give good indications of what they are doing.
Bridgestone S-03: Great levels of grip in wet and dry. Wear rate slightly higher than the T1-S, but thats the price of grip. They drift forever, and never really seem to fully let go.
Conti-Sports: Great tyre in 16's, not had them in 17's. Harder wearing than the two above, but gave good levels of grips in the wet.
Pirelli P-Zero's: Hard wearing, crap grip until very warm. Dont rate them.
Avon ZZ-1's: Get a barge pole and use it. Crap tyres.
Goodyear GSD3's: People rate them highly. Clive swapped to these some time ago, and loves them.
This should give you some idea.

Interesting comments on the S-03s. I tend to agree with the EVO report on them which was
-best straight line grip
- best dry lateral
- Good wet straight line grip
- horrid wet lateral.
Great for donuts :-)
Obviously getting some more weight on them helps the wet.
Of course if you really want grip you should look at things like the Yoko A048. You'll wear them out in about 3000 miles, but they will make all 'regular' rubber seem gripless

Thanks for that gents. My advise to anyone is dont go for Kumho's, i know they are not budget tyres as such but might as well have wood around the rims. How many miles could i expect to get from the Bridgestones, roughly.
