This link tells you how to obtain the error codes for your FD.
Clicky (http://www.k-rad.com/errcodes.html)
It might be worth a mod or someone taking these down and creating a proper sticky for others.

I tried this process for pulling the fault codes on my 94 japanese imported FD but couldn't get any codes out of it.
I discovered that the Japanese cars don't have a fault light (MIL) built in to the dash cluster. So to get the codes out you need to short TEN and GND and insert a 12V LED between B+ and FEN (anode to B+/ cathode to FEN) on the diagnostic port.
Then continue on with the process listed on the link and you will get the fault codes. If you don't have any codes the LED will light for a couple of seconds and then extinguish.
Hope this helps someone as it had me scratching my head for a while.

i tried what evil twin has said as wel... i didnt pull a fault code either when I know I should have been getting a crank angle sensor fault code.

That's odd. I only used this technique only the other day to find that my air intake temperature sensor was dead. Have you inserted the LED the correct way round? Are you using the stock ECU? Was the actually sensor faulty or just out of position?

no signal to the sensor. I tried it with the led both ways rounda s i wasnt really sure from looking at it. Yeah it was a stock ECU. There was no signal from the NE sensor due to faulty wiring.

I'm very sorry to hear about that. I picked up the info from RX7Club here:
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=369286
Except they use a standard LED and a resistor and I use a 12V LED (with the resistor built in).
I believe (after looking through several forums) this technique can be used on most older Mazda models, such as the MX6 and MX5 as also posted below:

Good luck but be careful those ECUs are sensitive pieces of kit. It worked for me in my car but it could damage yours due to manufacturing differences across the years.

Hi
I used this 12v LED from Maplins to read the fault codes out. It has a built in resistor so you can use it on its own.

I guess it just works on stock ecu but thought it worth the ask if it also would work on apexi?

Sorry, I can't help you on that. I should imagine that it doesn't work though.

I'm assuming these fault codes give the same information as looking at the sensor screen on a PFC Commander?
Useful if you have a Commander, not so if you only have the PFC ECU...
