Can anyone shed some light on fault finding my windscreen getting all steamed/condensation, every morning. Ive tried leaving it each night with the heating controls set to recirculate etc, but each day it mists up, front and rear if left for a few days, the car has been off the road for a good few months now but Ive stuck a 3kw heater in all day,to dry it out totally, but next day the same.

thanks in advance

had the same problem with a previous car, got rid of the pollen filter and the problem disappeared. are your door seals damaged?

Thanks for the reply so quick, the door seals look godd but when it steams up it starts from the bottom of the windscreen and works its way up within a few hours, where is the pollen filter located, is an easy enough job?

When the windows steam up does it leave a greasy film on the glass and smell a bit like mouldy socks ? If so could be a heater matrix on its way out.

Had this on my FTO. 1st remedy for this was trying radweld or similar added to the coolant to seal any small holes.

You mention the controls left on re-circulate - are they stuck in this position? I guess you do return them to the fresh air position when you are driving? If you leave them (or are stuck) in the re-circ position, you are simply humidifying the internal air in the car, and it won't take long before the windows "steam" up naturally.

I agree with Andrew, better to leave it on fresh.

Also, are the windows clean? I find dirty windows mist up quicker that clean ones.

Have you washed the car recently - you may have a slight leak, mine leaks around the rear spoiler, that would cause moisture buildup.

Oh, when you DO drive it, put the aircon on, as this dries out the air too.

If you do this I've been told to put the heaters on to the resirc position as it can overload your AC trying to continualy cool & dehumidify the air from the exterior!!! also keep your windows up or you'll fry the system!!!

does the fd have any filters that you can replace or clean for the blowers?? if so where are they?

All baloney if you ask me.

Recirc would dry out the air in the car. Fresh would bring fresh, dry air into the car, so I dont know which is better for helping demist.

Had a BMW 323 in a very hot climate, and it had a sunroof, I used to, almost always have the roof open and the aircon on at the same time. Did about 200k miles and the aircon never gave a huccup.

dont know if the FD has a pollen filter as i dont own one, maybe the FS Manuals might be able to help you out with that one.

i thought the whole idea of aircon is to act like fridge..a sealed environment. In the really hot weather i have the air con on recurculate so it blasts that lovely cold air at me faster.

stripped out rear hatch carpets as they were soaked from drips forming on the glass, but to my horror the film that covers the heating wire strips has gone milky white, and i've tried rubbing them with dry cloth but no luck, as for the source of the water when i opened the boot water leaked out of it from the strut fixings, landing duirectly on to the jack covers, its in the garage with all doors open till its dry, need new rear hatch now so hopefully fix the problem, i suspect its the problem and not vents being left open/closed recirc etc.

Black hatch required if any one has one?

I have just had that problem with the water in the rear hatch, but car is now in the bodyshop and they have pointed out that the window seals are perished.
National Windscreens are popping into the bodyshop tomorrow to measure up for new seals which will go in when the paint is finished. Also getting the windscreen done at he same time.

From memory, the weather seal for the rear Glass from Mazda was about £80. So for now I have dried up the seal where it was leaking (at the bottom middle where it joins) and filled it with a glue. Worked fine and no water on the inside of the boot lid. Very much a temporary fix though. I have noticed that the seal in my TII on the same place has broken too - so not the best then!

I find my windows demist better if put on fresh air. I also find hat if you constantly have a misted up car when you go to it every morning then you are most likely getting water in the car from somewhere.

I was told by a mate that turning the aircon on will indeed 'dry' up the moisture but when the system is used again, say the next day, the moisture is immediately released from the system and fogs you up almost in an instant!

:2eek £80 !!!! I hope it is a lot less than that.

Aircon ?!? - I removed mine.

Well don't worry yet - that was the Mazda price from my local dealer which kinda speak's for itself! :chat

Sorry, my aircon is staying put - I have all the creature comforts in the FD esp as its the UK car. The Westie & the TII will be the opposite! :Viking

LOL, having just a heater and a roof is luxury enough to me. I spend more time on two wheels than four.
The Lakes + Triumph = :cool
