electrics !!!!!

A problem to solve to all the autoelectrical people out there.....on the 7 the windscreen washer and wipers operate from the same power plant...the washer works but the wipers dont.Power to motor?... yes....motor working ...yes...but only if I short cut the entire system.!!!!!The steering control works fine as the washer works from it.
Where would I start to look for the intermitt prob.My mind has come to a standstill and yet its such a small prob to sort.Rewired many cars but this one has got me stumped.....please help :D

is the switch actually working ? there will be seperate contacts for the wash and wipe circuits. The only way to solve these sorts of things is to work through each part like you have been doing. A mutimeter on the plug/socket on the switch should tell you a lot. Are there any relays between the two ? (the 1st gen's relays are scattered randomly around the car IIRC) could be the culprit ?

Surprisingly, the Haynes manual has got really good wiring diagrams, and even graphics of where the connectors are in the looms etc. Do you have one, Era?

Mike is right, lets check next if the relay is being picked.

Got Haynes,but the wiring from the steering column and some parts in the engine bay have been changed !!!!thats my prob,will def take your advice on where to look for,do it tomm...thanx guys
