Just had car up for its first MOT before i get it registered etc etc. Car breezed through everything except the guy wouldnt give me my cert until he saw that the clocks read in MPH instead of KPH.
What are my options on this one as he said he wouldnt let it pass with a sticker approach?
No fussed on ripping out the clock unless its handy, doesnt break any clips or rattle after installation.
All ideas and suggestions are welcome!!!

Did you import it from the uk ??? Are you sure you don't mean kph instead of mph ?? Its just a gizmo thats wired into the dash to alter the signal. If you need it to go back to kph then its just a case of taking the dash out and removing the little black box.

Its a case of buying a sticker to swap over the kph to mph. Usually the converters come with the relevant sticker. I think I just blacked out the K so that it just says PH !

Only other thing id reconmend is to take it to somebody else. They are being way too arsy for a mot.
The only way to sort it is to actually put a sticker over it, nobody makes replacement dials (awaiting flame) because it will still have the 180 kph limiter on it which is only 118mph (trust me its doesn't take long to get there).

You still need the black box !!!

Just imported a car myself which had too go through the SVA test. This test is a lot more stringent than an MOT. The tester pulled me up as I forgot to remove the kph sign from the dials. ( I had converted the speedo with a electronic converter ) He checked the relevant requirements and was happy for me too black out the K with a marker pen. My advice is take it some where else as this person is not following the correct requirements.

i wouldn`t bother taking it somewhere else..what if the second garage you take it to fails it on something more serious thats gonna cost even more ££ than the first one?? Its one of those jobs that needs doing anyway, and you will be glad its done so now is the time to get it done. If he is a decent bloke then next time he will just pass the car when the speedo is correct without charge. You can buy the converters off ebay http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&shortcut=0&from=R41&query=speedo+converter&category0=&Submit=Search
i presume any converter will do the job.

It's not part of the MOT test. I had mine a few days ago and my speedo is in KMH, passed with no issues.

I am sure someone more knowledgeable than me will comment, but I am sure that I remember being told the rx7 uses a 'negative' pulse or something like that, so you need to get the right type of converter for it.

ok i think after looking through various options i'm gonna try these guys out.......

anyone got any experiences comments on thier service. as i live in northern ireland i'll have to post them over which im kinda scared of but i really havent got much other option available to me.
I like the idea of the odometer being set to miles with my proper km->miles conversion.
any help appreciated

The Northern Irish MOT is a much more stringent than ours - my Girlfriend is from NI and her dad can't believe that we can just turn up and get an MOT done in 30 mins - apparently it is a real big deal taking most of a day. As i understand it there is quite a trade in people taking their cars across to Liverpool / Scotland to get a 'mainland' MOT.

You do not need to have the speedo in Mph to pass an MOT.
I think they are being way too picky as people have said.

MOT over here is a joke!!! They charge 30 quid just to look at the car, go over them with a fine tooth comb, 4 month waiting list to get one, then another 18 quid for the inevitable re-test!!!
At least they didnt fail me for the clocks, but just want my cert to get the damn think registered and ready for driving!!!!
One is not amused ;)

As mentioned many times in this thread. if it is a VOSA mot, the speedo is not a part of the test, There is no way of testing it anyway.and it could say potatoes per mile and it would not matter!!!!! not that it would?? Again, if it is a VOSA then I would go through the appeal proceedure which means someone else from VOSA will come and test your car. The VOSA mot test is not that stringant when done by the book, it is usually down to power crazed testers, find a good one and stick with them..
