as the title says, i need a new clutch and dont know what to get and where from, performance wise i am not too concerned really as i am not going to be going crazy over power increase mods, just something slightly better then standard would do, but obviously at a reasonable price,
also, how do i tell if the whole lot needs changing or just the clutch disc/cover need changing? i am getting clutch slip at WOT, otherwise it is normal, how long would this last me before it burns out completely (provided i drive sensibly)???
cheers, Patrick,

I use the extreme clutch. Have had no issues at all. The clutch has had serious abuse and countless dyno runs. Not sure how much it cost me but 20b boy would be able to tell you.

I will shortly have an uprated clutch for sale. It is a centreforce dual friction clutch which i purchased from Clive at Shy Auto shortly before RSII last year. Since fitting it has probably only covered around 1K miles as shortly after RSII my engine went and has been waiting on a rebuild ever since.
This clutch is rated upto 500 flywheel horsepower and has been comfortable coping with the 400RWHP my RX is producing. The pedal feel is almost the same as a stock clutch and certainly a helluva lot lighter than the twin plate i had previously ( i nearly put my foot through the floor the first time i drove my RX after changing the clutch lol ;) )
Not exactly sure what it is now worth but would be looking for around £250 -£300 o.n.o
you can email me on icesurf3r@aol.com if your intrested

Pat ,
im in the EXACT same position as you
i have mailed all the tuners , just waiting for an answer
i have looked in the states - and you can get a disc, cover, bearing, alignment tool for around £125 delivered then upwards
i just dont know what to go for , i was gonna get a 6 puk one , but i might just get a stage 1 clutch , should handle about 275 at the fly or a stage 2 which will do more
if you find one , let me know - and i will let you know if i find one

Icesurf3r- I am quite interested, but how soon is soon that this will be available?
Grinder- £125 is very cheap, so why dont you go for it?? what are the specs of it and how long does it take for delivery?
as my original post says, i dont know how long it will last, as it is a daily driver, and now i have had the boost set way down at 0.3-0.4 bar and it takes xxx amount of years to get there, so it seems ok like this, but if i let the boost run to 0.6+bar, i start to see slippage at around 3500rpm, and the clutch tries to regain contact, dont want to completely burn it out again like last time, ended up waiting on a motorway for 2 hours for someone to pick me up!!
cheers,
Pat,

What power have you got? This would make it easier to suggest what to go for!

power wise? ummm.........i am guessing around 250at the fly, maybe a bit less, and wont be building anymore then this,

OS Giken Twin Plate will hold the power but it's noisy and makes driving a 'different experience altogether'. So go for something else basically, whatever Reworx recommend infact since i've only heard good things, Extreme whatever.. etc.

Hmmmmm I had a bad experience of OS Giken twin plates. That was the clutch i had fitted before the Dual friction one.
The OS Giken one detonated on my way home from Pips after my Apexi mapping session. When i opened the viewing plate underneath the RX it was like been bombarded with shrapnel (sp) as all these little bits of metal started falling on my head
Also it was horiffic to drive in traffic, the biting point was literally 1 cm off the floor, if you sneezed or wiggled your toes while holding the clutch in, that was it, you stalled lol!!!
fc3sPAT: Clutch will be available in a couple of weeks.

ah the bite point is adjustable, mines so high i have my knee up to my chin before the car starts to move :) It's on the to-do list while the car's in bits.

Pat,
the guy reckons 2-3 days via insured Air Mail
have a look on EBAY.COM there are loads of clutches
i need one to handle about 250 at the fly aswell - so the stage one at 275 should be enough
mine only does about 700 miles a year - so if a clutch only lasts 10K - thats about 12-13 years for me :D :D :D
im still waiting for a CONFIRMED shipping cost - when i last asked it was about $135 for the clutch and just short of $90 for shipping
i will give the tuners a few days to check their email then bite the bullet and ship one over
i dont want to get where the car is undriveable ( it drives fine , just not at WOT in anything above 3rd )

i switched to a center force one insted of exedy single..the center force is a pleasure compared to exedy..most uprated clutches are really for the hardcore guys

how much power would a standard replacement cope with? i popped down to Mr.Clutch today and got quoted £230 fitted for around 3 hours work, does this sound fair? and is it advisable??
samfc3s
4th February 2006, 04:07 PM
Pat...i think 230 fitted sounds ok...since fittin is about 2 hours i think.....

4th February 2006, 07:31 PM
Fitting on a Fc depends on the exhaust. if it comes apart easily 1.5 to 2hrs. If not a lot longer. stock clutch should cope with it
grinder
4th February 2006, 07:38 PM
does the 230 inc the clutch ??
how much would they charge is you supplied one ?
fc3sPAT
4th February 2006, 11:15 PM
£230 is including clutch and fitting and VAT, so thats all you pay grinder, but i dont know what they will charge to just supply, as i wouldnt be able to do this myself so i want fitting too,
i have been told by them that would roughly be a 3 hour job,

not tooo bad to be honest ( the price )
im really tempted to do mine my self - i hate paying people to work on my car ... im just cheap thats all
i was more worried about the stock clutch not holding up to the BHP to be honest

lol, grinder, stop being cheap and get it done, you have been waiting long enouh for a clutch havent you? i remember you asking leo for his a while back, i will be getting mine done this week, cant really afford to risk being stranded again, hopefully it will stay in one piece until friday, as it seems fine being held at 0.3bar of boost, (but i dont even go over 0bar at the moment as i am so worried!! :p )

hey being cheap is what this RX7 business is about ??? or am i wrong
and yeah its been 6 months looking for a clutch now !! LOL
will no doubt order one this week
i might wait for you to get yours and see how a stocker holds up to the boost :D
fc3sPAT
5th February 2006, 09:01 PM
cheap + RX7 = not cheap,
i guess they arent too bad, because the one needs replacing now is a stock one too, and its been 2 years ago, and i've always been running on around 0.6bar max boost (dont forget, mine is a daily driver for me), i cant really see a problem with it seeing as you only do 700miles a year anyway and i think they do a 2year/20,000mile warranty on them, but i will find this out and let you know,
