Im new to the world of rx7's

Wanted one for a long time, but so put off with horrer storys, but took the plunge and bought this bad boy:

following subtle mods
17 INCH MAZDASPEED ALLOYS
JASMA EXHAUST
MAZDA SRUT BRACE
CARBON FIBRE INTAKE
TURBO TIMER
PIONEER CD/MINIDISC
ENGINE EARTH KIT
DENSO IRRIDIUM PLUGS
UPRATED LEADS
FOG LIGHTS
HKS TURBO FRONT PIPE

I did deal with a supra we had, heres the deal:

Its been in the country about 3 months, the first owner was the garage who imported it (locally in Cornwall) he sold it to the lad who had our non turbo supra (he said he was selling it, because a) he scared himself in it 1st time he drove it as he used to have an evo 4x4 and b) being 6ft 2 he found the cabin rather cramped and couldnt afford running etc nit pratical)

The mileage is 49k miles, but it had the dials changed due to faulty fuel guage by the garage (dialds now show 116k kms), also he said he did a compresion test infornt of him, and it all showed good.

I was worried about this as 113k kms is coming up to re build time.

We rang the garage and he confirmed all of this to be correct (compression and 49k miles)

The car starts easy hot and cold, no problem.

Idles great, not lumpy, although it is a little erm 'rougher' when starting from cold in the moring, prob nothing, i just notice it as i seem to be worried about the car all the time

There was i tiny bit of white erm 'mayo' in oil cap, read this might be ok??

Also the temp gauge reads cold almost all of the time, never goes up to half.
And the heaters are not brilliant, i was wondering is this the thermosat?
Or should i be more worried?

The engine looks immaclute, serviced regualry, only run on optimax etc. The only worry is its not running REALLY warm on the temp guage?

Any idea guys?? :cool

PLUS is there any way to tell if it has had rotar tips replaced?

Welcome to the club mate, ref you temps does the engine have an electric water pump fitted, if so that may well be why you have cool temps or it may be someone has removed the thermostate. HTH. :evillaugh

hi and welcome!

love the intake!! thats probably why its running nice and cool.

tbh sounds like you have a good running (and looking) example. the mayo isnt a problem thats what happens every winter.

if your worried about temperatures then best off getting yourself a temp gauge as long as it doesnt go to 99 degrees your fine. although it could be a good thing to have it serviced (major).

to test if its had the tips replaced is to open the engine! or you could get it compression tested which will give you a fair idea.

Why have you got this figure in mind as a danger figure? 99 degrees is fine. That's a not problem temp. Well, it is and it isn't: That temp won't do the engine any damage, but on the standard ECU the fans should have come on at that temp, and therefore reduced the temps. If for example an Apexi ECU is fitted, then the base map has the fans coming on at 100degrees, so not a problem.

It's difficult to say about the temp gauge. The gauge could be fault. The sender unti could be faulty - or your temps really could be too low. If you're temps are too low, then as warthog says you could have had the thermostat removed. Or, it could be stuck open.

But seeing as though the heaters don't work very well, it sounds like it's over cooling. So check the thermostat out.

agreed, 99 degrees might be bad on a piston car, close to blowing headgasket temps but we dont have to worry about that, Seen 110degrees on my rex whilst doing some spirited driving.. no problems for me either.

As others have said Stat could have been removed or stuck open etc... :)

Also another quick question-it has 17" mazda speed rims (think they are rays?? they have rays centre caps) split rims alloys, are these rims worth anything??

That's a lovely car you have. Congrats on your new purchase.

Yes, the Rays are very nice and certainly worth something. I have the same but with goldish spokes. I prefer the silver spokes such as yours.

The Rays suits the RX very well IMHO.
