Has anyone one done mapping with the tesco 99 ron? Is it really as good as they claimed it to be. Was really surprised when he told me that there was a noticeable decrease in MPG.

I use Tesco's 99ron and prefer it over the Optimax stuff.

With the MR2 the ECU has a self learn mode that adaps to different fiuels so he probably would get better MPG.

But he actually got less MPG out of it. That's why I was wondering if it's actually as good as we thought it was.

How much is 99 ron anyway? iv heard 3p-6p cheaper than Optimax? I used to pay 94.7p for Optimax, normal tesco is 86.9p

i have found that £20 of optimax lasts longer than £20 tesco 99. I think optimax burns better ........ just mt opinion

Hasn't been mapped properly yet. A better map was put in a while back and checked up to 6,000rpm with 0.5 bar boost just for running in the engine. It did have Tesco's 99 ron fuel in it.
I use to swear by Optimax when i had my twins but have tried it again and found that i had poor fuel economy and the car didn't feel as good to drive under boost. Now with the Tesco's 99 ron I find that i can get 85-100 miles to £30 of fuel which is not bad considering it's a bridge ported motor with a single turbo! And that is a mixture of around town driving, cruising and driving with boost!! :3gears-rh

BTTT, the Tesco Extra between the A49 and Chorley now stocks 99ron. Hopefully Leyland and other tescos will follow suit ! Guy behind counter said they weren't bothering advertising the fact that they had 99 in, buggers !!!!!
Does feel better, and my knock readings seemed to be better than the 97ron stuff from texaco that i usually use !

Mechanic I know advised against using Tesco fuel as they mix together whatever they can get cheapest at the time? Don't know if this is really true mind! He also reckons just about every customer coming to him with water in the fuel tank kind of problems is a Tesco customer....so I've always steered clear. 99 Ron sounds good though, but why are they doing it when most cars don't need it anyway?

A Waitrose near us had 98 or 99ron (can't remember which) fuel recently. Was a bit surprised since it seems only Shell and Tesco get mentioned for higher RON rated fuel.
