View Full Version : Increasing steel rim width

Hi all
This question apllies to my RX-2 and 323, which have steel rims. Where can I get them widened?
Maybe for the 323 I could just get mags, but the RX-2 came with an almost immaculates set of hubcaps! I would like to retain these, but would really like some more rubber on the road on both cars.
Chris Wilson advises putting the NARROWST tyre, or at least the correct size tyre, on any given rim. So, I need a wider rim.
Thanks

try searching round some street rod etc. sites .... lots of Ford pops and Anglias have had the wheels widened.
What model 323 do you have ? I've swapped MX5 steelies onto my BG hatchback and they made quite a difference to the grip available (wider tyres of course)

Thanks 4 the help, guys.
Mike, the 323 is a 1987 1.5 sedan. BTW, does anyone know of breakers yard that might have 323s. I need some carb parts and a suspension arm. Txs
Also, looks like Weller wheels might need the stud configuration. Does anyone know what the typical 4stud for 13" rim is for Mazda?
(Their website has a couple to choose from, eg "4 stud by 100.00 PCD")
Txs again

I think the 323 should be 4x100 but its a bit older than mine so I'm not too sure. I think the RX-2 should be 4 x 110 which is a bit of an odd size.

Thanks
I have sent them an email. Hopefully, they can just widen the RX-2 rims, then I dont need to worry about the stud config.
Mind you, would they most likely keep the same offset?

You'll have to work that one out by measuring the car. adding width to just one side will change the offset by half the amount added. Looks like you'll need to dig out a tape measure and see what you can get away with.
