Guys,
Just got my new radio today hurrah, tried fitting it but have the wrong sized aerial adapter. Gonna get that tomorrow.
Anyway my query is that whenever the ignition is on the aerial comes up. I think the aerial is hideous, on my last jap radio it didnt come up until the radio mode was selected. Is there anything I can do to stop it coming up apart from when using the radio ?
Suppose I could plumb a switch in, any other ideas ?
The radio is an Alpine if you need to know.
Cheers,
Gareth

Nevermind to this chaps, spliced a switch into the aerial power lead and can now switch the aerial on (up) or off (down) as and when I choose hurrah.
Will post some pics tomorrow, gotta fit the Ipod connector box somewhere too. Hopefully it wont be too cold and snowy !!!

your radio will have a 12v out put when switched on , this will run your aerial or switch on amps ect. you need to disconnect the ign. feed from your aerial and run in this feed instead.

Its cool mate, I spliced a switch into the power aerial lead as mentioned above, works fine.

Im with you on that. Im going to get my car resprayed and was considering taking the earial out and having it filled in. Only thing is I listen to the radio a lot! I think I only have 2 options: Fit a bee sting type aerial on the roof or get a DAB head unit.
What does anyone else think? Particularly about the bee sting aerial - are these cool or 'chav' ??
Anyway my query is that whenever the ignition is on the aerial comes up. I think the aerial is hideous,

Hello
This may sound a little strange but:)
I thought these cars came with two ariel connection, my FD came with two ariel leads behind the section you fit the stereo into.
I traced one back to the rear electic horrible ariel and the other routes its way around my dash but does not route back to my rear electric ariel, I just thought all FD came with this wire antena.
Not sure if it was fitted by someone, but I dont use the rear ariel at all and get a perfect reception.
ANyone shed any light on this for me.

I believe the other lead goes to the aerial thats on the back window. Its designed as a booster to the electric aerial on a standard Mazda radio.

You can buy ariel kits from motorworld etc which fit to the window of a car if you dont want one on the bodywork
