Gremlins, yet more gremlins!

My radiator fans don't always come on when they are meant to. However, if i switch the air con on which causes the fans to come on, and then switch it off again, the fans remain on as they should do. I'm currently checking the relays, but does someone out there know what else might be the problem if the relays are fine?

I have datalogit etc mate. If you want me to take a look and lower the temp of when the fans come in-email me at royston1xx@blueyonder.co.uk and i will give you my mobile no. :wave

You need to do the labourious job of checking the loom to the fans mate, it could be that you have a bare wire thats earthing or a poor connection somewhere.

I have just had it brought to my attention that with the base map for the apexi power fc the fans for the rad come on at the following temps:

Fan 1 with aircon on - 95 degrees
Fan 1 no aircon- 100 degrees
Fan 2 no aircon- 105 degrees

Is this correct? Can anyone confirm this? I have not let temps get as high as 100, so cannot confirm that the fans come on, but it kind of makes me a bit more confident that there's nothing wrong with the electrics. I have tested all the relays for the fans, and they are all ok anyway.

have a look on www.rx7city.com they have pdf files of the workshop mannual , had a quick look but couldn't find the temp there meant to come in at but you might find something that will help.

Hmmm, I run the base map and mine come on about 96-97 degrees.

Have heard you could adjust the temp they come on but havent really looked into ho. Dont think you can do it from the commander.

dont forget its cold out side,,
try lowering the fan temp and see if that works,

No, you can't do it from the commander. You need the datalogit to do that. I'm not sure if i dare run my care until i see 100 degrees C. I know it's not boiling the coolant at that temp - so would i be ok with temps that high to see if the fans come on?

I have as well as the power FC, a Greddy temp gauge in the inlet hose to the rad which tends to be within about 1C of the ECU. So I can safely monitor temps using both gauges.

As you mentioned earlier those are the std PFC settings for fans see snippet from datalogit manual.

Wicked! So, potentially, there's nothing wrong with my temps! However, i therefore find it strange that the fans have come on before at 95! (Without Air Con on)
