Heads up here chaps, you'll find the full thread here:

So, I've had my RX8 for 2 years now and ran it happily on Fuchs Titan XTR 5w-30 for 18 months without issues or problems - a good oil and I totally endorse its use.

6 months ago I started to conduct and experiment with another oil, a FULLY SYNTHETIC (pao based) 5w-30 the details of which are here:

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/TechSpecs/Mobil%20and%20Motul/8100_Eco-nergy_5W-30_8123.pdf

I went in with my eyes open and totally accepted that this oil was a fully synthetic carrying a higher spec (ACEA A3/A5 as opposed to Fuchs ACEA A1 spec) but with the confidence that Fully Synthetic can be used in the RX8 even though Mazda have not tested it, or at least had not done so in the early days of the RX8.

The early results were good, lower oil consumption, lower fuel consumption, more responsive acceleration when the loud pedal was pushed and less deposits on the tailpipes.

So I asked two other Members of the RX8 Owners Club (Orbist & Druck) to test this oil and replicate their findings with the new oil. Well, I know Orbist has finished conduction his test and Druck is still doing so but I now feel confident enough to let you know what I have found, I'm sure Orbist will publish his findings here as well.

Over the 6 month period I have found the following staggering results!

Oil Consumption has reduced by 40%
I was using 1L per thousand miles, it's now 600ml every 1000 miles.

Fuel Consumption has got better by 10%
Mine has never been good but then I like the loud pedal so I used to average between 18 and 20mpg, I now get 20-22mpg.

The car is more responsive and pulls harder when accelerating hard.

There are less black deposits on the tailpipes and what's more they are easier to remove as well.

So, why is this?

Well much can be explained by the quality of the oil which is a true fully synthetic and burns more cleanly. It also is less volatile, reducing oil consumption and probably delivers a bit more to the wheels.

I can anticipate the next few questions:

Is it safe to use this oil? Yes, there are no downsides that I know of.

Where can I get this oil? Me of course, I intend to make it available to Club Members at a discounted price

How much does it cost? More of course, it's better quality but I can assure you that it won't be 40% more

So, I'll leave it for Orbist and Druck to post any observations but all I have to say in conclusion is I'm sticking with it, it's a great oil!

So, are there any RX7 tuners who would be interested in conducting the same test and publishing their findings?
