View Full Version : Nice new mirrors - with magnifying glass DOH!!

Take a look at my new mirrors on my TII - nice aren't they? They are from a US S5 FC and were not used on UK versions. I bought them on Ebay a couple of months ago, repsrayed them and fitted them with no problems. Well almost no problems...

Because this is from a US car, the LHS mirror is magnified which makes driving really really weird. Everytime I look in the passenger mirror it seems I'm getting tailgated. On the RHS mirror there is the usual blah about "Objects in the rear view mirror etc etc"

So, does anyone have any bright ideas how I could get the mirror glass replaced to UK spec? The driving experience is a bit too weird to get used to and I am slightly concerned about being laughed out of my next MOT test.

BTW - interestingly (or not) these US mirrors are ridgid do not flex backwards like normal UK ones. So if you park on a narrow street I wouldn't recommend them!

Suggestions?
Cheers
Stuart

do you struggle with the mirrors being angled for RHD too ? I have some US spec mirrors on my 1st gen and they are a pain because of that (hopefully sorted now with some aus spec stalks)

on the magnifying bit (not that it should be a problem for the MOT) had you thought about using those universal cut to fit and stick on mirror repair kits to replace the old glass ?

Thanks.

I will give the stick on mirror repair kit a try. I know what you mean about them being angled for RHD use - the angle I can get is just about ok on the passenger side.
