Hi all,
I'm back on the look out for a 3rd Gen. after a couple of months out of work :D
Firstly, I'll be 25 in December so I guess I'll wait 'till then if the savings are really that much once you reach that golden age!
But, has anyone on this forum come accross policies that cover you to drive 2 vehicles?
In other words, your NCB is applied to the RX, but you're also covered to drive a banged out old diesel or something to work everyday?
I don't want to have to pay a fortune on the RX with one policy and on the banger on another because my NCB is applied to the RX:confused:
Sorry if this seems a daft question, I'm just sure I've read about this somewhere.

You can find (most) insurance companies that will allow you to apply the no claims from your first car onto a second policy for your runabout
with the added benefit that generally leaves you with double the NCB at the end of it

You have to have two policies. What some companies will do is 'gift' you the same amount of NCB from your main policy to the secondary policy, until you build up the second NCB.
I am now on 8 years with the main policy (Scoob) and 2 years with the second policy (FD). Both are not limited milage policies, so I can drive each one as much as I want. :D
This is done by brokers, not main insurance companies.

I wanted to do the exact same thing and some comapanies will allow you to drive a second car under the one policy however they asked me about 5 millions questions and i have ended up just taking out 2 policies which as im only 20 = £££££. One thing i will say though is - that will you really ever drive the diesel?! When i walk out of my front door in the morning i'm faced with the question 'do i drive the 1000cc Fiat panda, look like a nob and save a couple of quid or do i arrive at work smiling in style and spend a bit more' !! I'll let you guess which option i go for!!

And being an old Fiat its probably off the road more than the FD too :p
My Panda was a nightmare!

I've only had it a month so havent found out yet!! But as I cant abuse the FD that gets the pleasure of being my handbrake turn car!! So no doubt it wont last long!
What went wrong with yours then?

Loads of things went wrong with my Fiat. Mainly fuel problems which meant if you went up a hill the car would cut out and then you wouldnt be able to start it.
This was temporarily fixed by replacing some fuel lines with cut garden hose, at which point it was taken straight to a car dealer and part exchanged. A good move.
This was my first car by the way, not sure id have one now :)

Well i really dont want one either but its the cheapest thing to get insured on and 1000cc means good fuel economy so as a second cheap car it aint too bad, actualy what am i talking about, you're right its a piece of :censored::censored::censored::censored:! But its nice to know i have something that will trasport me quicker than walking if god forbid anything happened to my baby (FD) !!

Thanks for the responses guys.
Does that mean then that the 2nd 'run about' can be anything?
At the mo. I drive an RS13 200SX, which is O.K. not worth much but still a damn sight faster than a diesel, and costs me around £350 TPFT per year.
Perhaps that can be my run about, not that expensive on fuel either (if you drive it nicely!!!!!);) :rollin

Would it be the case that if were running two cars on one policy and were ufortunate enough to prang the 'run around' car this would affect the no claims on you RX.
As you would be using the 'run around' to a higher percentage of the time and therefore more likely to prang it, or have it pranged, is it worth the risk?
From experience I wrote my van off, it was on seperate cover and didn't affect the policy on my car. [Being carefull not to disclose make of prevoius car]:)

John I think it would yes.
Thats the idea of having two policy's, the car that is going to cost the most to insure gets the NCB, the cheaper car to insure gets the other policy.
Second policy's are normally limited mileage jobs, so that also makes a difference.

on the same note i just discovered the AON deal as "classic" doesn't actually use yer no claims so my NCB will be used on policy for carp car & the AON bad boy deal for me RX7 (when it shows itself ;)) so win win it seems :D
