In the latest Autocar the RX8 is beaten round the track by a MX5.
I hope the RX8 doesnt give people the impression that rotaries are slow!

Er, yeah - and the RX8 falls flat on its arse, Mazda bin it - and any thoughts about another 7 with it.
Rotary engine development, R.I.P.

Yeah I've read the same article. Was interesting to note the Lambo beat the mitsubishi EVO, which was also beaten by the Subaru. But on Topgear when the Stig had taken them round their track the Mitsubishi beat both of these cars. Just goes to show some cars will shine on certain tracks with certain drivers.
So if you wanna go round Rockingham track fast, buy a P'sport JP1 TS or a Radical SR3 LM. If however you wanna buy a car to ride on the road - test drive all the cars you like and buy the one that impesses you most and fits in your budget. :)
It's so simple a child could figure it out.
Wouldn't it be boring if everybody only bought the same car? Then there would only be one manufacturer and one colour and it would cost a small fortune as you would have no choice.
So be an individual test drive a few cars if you like it, buy it, if you don't thats :cool too but either way I'm not gonna give a damn if my RX-8 can't outaccelerate the Space Shuttle from 0-20000mph. They are just numbers, all I want is a car that I think looks good and that I think drives well. The important bit is the I.
So if you drive a Honda S2000 and you out accelerate me at the traffic lights, :cool but lets see you squeeze two adults into the back of your car, same goes for 350Z. If you drive a Subaru or a Mitsubishi you will whip my RX-8 but every time I sit inside my car I will smile with a sense of satisfaction at the BOSE sound system, comfortable leather seats and generally :cool interior, I somehow doubt they will be doing the same.
All cars have their good and bad points, you just have to decide which are important to you. I want a good looking car, that handles well, that goes well, that stops well, that has a quality interior and doesn't require the budget of a small country to buy/run. For me that car is the RX8. Other people will want other things and thus may well buy other cars but quite frankly I don't give a damn. :D

yes but the MX5 beat everthing else too :cool (in the final conclusion of the best handling car anyway!)
Not suprsing really, the RX8 is a large car and isn't that light when compaired to a two seater that shares a lot of design pointers with the 3rd gen RX7 (that should really be the other way round as the mx5 came 1st !! Power plant frame etc. etc. )
Interesting to note the max corner speeds for the MX5 were well up on all the other cars, and not beeing that far off the trackday specials !

Yeah 70 mph for MX5 was good but I refuse to believe that the EVO peak cornering speed was only 66mph, less than a peugeot 206?? Most people think the EVO handles better than a Subaru (if there are no bumps).
I think not! I'll take a corner in an EVO at high speed over a peugeot any day. ;)
Some of the results just don't seem to correlate with every other track run I've read about that's all.
Anyway enough on that topic, everyone knows the MX-5 is good, it's just the best car to take round Rockingham it seems. :cool

I find it strange that I can take some corners faster in the FD than I can in the scoob, and then it gets reversed for other corners. :cool

don't forget an evo is a big saloon car ... 4wd doesn't magically make a car handle well ... it may have more traction but I bet an well set up light car with a low C of G will eat and evo/scoob on a sweeping/medium tight race track or road ... wet or dry.
4wd is good at putting power down out of slow corners and off the line though + it is safe (up to a limit!) :p

yeah allright but a peugeot 206? a well setup light car
Must be the magical version, cause all the peugeot 206's I've driven are not even playing the same game, never mind being in the same league, as an EVO. Plus EVO has more than just 4WD, Active Yaw control makes quite a difference too. ;)
That wasn't the only irregularity, a Ford focus RS has higher cornering speed than : Radical SR3, Westfield XTR2, Porche 911 GT3, Lamborghini Murcielago, Pagani Zonda, Evo III, 147 GTA, S4, Z4, Boxter, MX5 etc
Hmm ok Sorry I'm just not biting today :)
