Have seen quite a few people post on here about fitting ICE to there cars, this weekend (if it dont rain) i will be fitting a complete system, nothing fancy, just four new speakers and a head unit.

From past threads i know a lot of people are worried about speaker depth, removing interior panels, running wires, fitting components etc etc.

If there is anyone interested i will take a load of photos while i am installing it all and do a proper write up on it.

Wow yes please Nix. I am thinking about putting a shallow mount woofer ( blaupunkt ) behind the back seat backrest.

If I only have one woofer, how do I get stereo signal from my head unit to be a mono signal for my woofer, but stay stereo for the front speakers?

Should any woofer amp be able to do this for me?

Yes, all subs are mono and it is best to use a mono block amp to power them.

Heres a simple how to for a sub and amp

RCA leads from the back of the head unit, these look like phono leads.
If you have quite a new head unit, it will probably have a seperate output for the Sub.

You'll need a sufficent amp to run the sub and then its just a matter of running a permanent live from the battery to the amp, earthing the amp and the remote cable from the Head unit to the amp.

Make sure you run the RCA leads seperate from the power, other wise you will get interference. best thing to do is run them either side of the car, under the sill bit!

Hope this helps :D

Ok, can I ask the question again....

Does the amplifier take the 2 channels and make them into 1 channel, and it leaves your front speakers 2 channels?

Also, .. will the amp usually have its own crossover?

oki doki i'll get the batteries in the camera charged up and see what i can come up with.

Regarding your question on your sub, Tez is correct, just use your RCA leads that come out of the head unit to connect to the mono amp, or a bridged twin unit, the head unit itself may have a built in low pass / high pass / Sub filter in the controls, if not then just buy an amp that has an external switch to choose the levels.

As mentiond above, all you need is a set of RCA leeds from the stereo to an amp of the correct output for the sub. If the H unit has a designated sub out then thats fine, but if it doesnt go from the front channel to the amp.

If it's a monoblock amp for a sub then all you need to do is set the levels on the amp, but if it doesn't all you need to do is bridge 2 channels to make the sub work in mono (this will be explaind in the amp manual under setup), set the crossover to the low pass setting, then again adjust the level & frequancy levels to get the desired amount of volume & thump!!

Hope this helps

Surely bridging the 2 channels would make everything Mono?

I am interested in an ice fitting guide.

The fitting of my headunit has been a mammoth task, where do you put all those headunit wires in such a small place !!! LOL.

No, no, no, bridge the channels on the output of the amp for the sub :p
if the other speakers are running direct from the H unit it wont affect them at all, they'll still be in stereo.

Well if the rain holds off this weekend i will get the tutorial all written up, and even though i am not fitting an amp or sub at the moment i will try and cover that as well for anyone who is interested.
