Hi,

Just thought I would see if I was welcome here! I own a NSU Ro80 with a NSU rotary engine...yes this is a miracle.

Anyway, as far as I know the few Ro80/NSU clubs in the UK don't even have email not to mention a website so I thought I would register with you lovely folk to see if there was any interest in the Ro here?

I have got a website under construction for my motor but I don't know if it is OK to type a link in or not?

Well, thanks for reading this. If I'm intruding 'I'll get me coat as they say'.

Best regards,
R

Thank you very, very much.

It's nice to feel wanted...believe me you only usually have to mention the words Ro80 & it's, 'that was the car which broke down all the time haha!'

Mine has just been refurbished this year. I'm so addicted I'm constructing a website & as Mike says OK to a link here it is:

www.ro80rotormotor.co.uk

There's lots more pics there & I have yet to finish a good number of pages. Hope you see something you like & thanks again.

R

top website ! looks like its going to be good.

I hope you bring your motor to a few events so we can see it in the flesh :) The "main event" is Rotorstock III next year but there are plenty of other events all through the year for the rotary enthusiast :)

Here is a photo of our other RO80 (can't think of the owners name, I think its Phil Blake ... cosmoman on here I think!?)

OK! Awesome. You're very welcome, and there might not have been Mazda rotary had it not been for NSU?

Look forward to seeing this car one day.

Mike, I know of Phil very well indeed & have touched the car in your pictures! Infact he has offered advice & help ever since I bought my own Ro. Just this year alone with all the resto going on I have picked up some parts from him.

He certainly is the man to know if you own a Ro.

I will keep an eye on your events too. By the way I am more than happy to put a link to your site on mine if you want me to?

Fro, yes the resto ended up far more extensive than expected & boy did I miss my car for the duration.....it was miles away & abroad on the Isle Of Wight!

I will keep updating my site from now on with more pics & info.

Best regards,
R

What ever happened to the RO's that Simon Kremer had, was reputed to have more than any other in the UK, until his unfortunate death.

My car went to RotTechniks for servicing a couple of times. I met Simon & on my last visit he was in the process of rebuilding a Ro to a very high spec including electric windows, walnut dash etc..

As I understand, the remaining team there don't have any interest in the 80 & have run down that side of things. I called them earlier in the year about some parts as they have a large stock but they never came back to me & others have had similar experiences.

I don't know what happened to the Ros but Phil Blake has about 10 or more at the last count. Some runners, some not. If I had the space I could well be in competition with him!

Attached is a shot of my lovely little Mazda 323 GTi I once owned. Not a rotary but another example of Mazda quality.

R

nice, they a very strong cars, I road rally a 323 gti and the amount of abuse it stands is unreal. The latest rally I completed with two bent con rods after hydraulic locking the engine in a ford. It didn't miss a beat all the way to the end of the even AND drove home even with the severe engine damage ! top motors

Hi Mike,

The little 323 always felt very solid though I have to say that mine ended up victim to rust on the chassis. A shame because the body was good & inside was excellent.

It went for scrap value.

Anyway, thanks for all your responses to my first post here. Happy motoring!

I'm speechless!

Rather like the 6 wheel Ro80 'truck' too. Can I copy the picture? Might incorporate it into my site somewhere if that's OK? Perhaps a new page 'Weird Ro's'.

R

You need to ask Hurley Engineering about that, i expect they will be ok with it. Or you could just put a link to their website on your site.

I just spotted the Colt Sigma 2.0 on your previous cars bit on your website, that takes me back, the first car i ever drove was one of those - reg FKX831T - in metallic brown.

Is it OK to place a link on my site to this one?

of course it is. We would be very pleased :)

Saw a mint looking blue RO80 in Lincoln today, I've seen it a few times now and I think it was purchased off EBay. Its still got its unique rotary sound too so no nasty engine swaps under the bonnet :)

I will have to flyer him up sometime :bandit

Hi there Ro80rotormotor,

I am an NSU owner from Australia,

Do you plan on putting a forum for Ro80's on your website, as the NSU world could really do with one!

Cheers

Hi Sinkas,

Yes, hopefully some sort of interactive page eventually & I know exactly what you mean about needing something like this.

I was also thinking about a page for pics of visitors other rotary vehicles like the RX7/8.

In the meantime If you want to send a pic of your Ro to my email address on the site I can place it with the others already received.

Best regards,
Jules.

Hi, I just saw this thread!
I'm Bart, I live in Belgium, and own two Ro80's! They both are in need of restoration, but things have been a bit too busy overhere lately...
Anyway, I'm hoping to live in the UK next year (still waiting for the test, I can only start working in the UK when they approve my English, but the employer seems a bit slow to get things going right now), which means I'd bring one Ro80 and my RX-7. I have many spare parts (a lot new) for it, so I just need to find the time to get the body welded and painted, so I can reassamble it. I'll have it painted dark blue metallic (original NSU color) with blue interior (although I also have a leather interior as a spare). To make sure it'll be perfect, I also have a 40.000km engine (4-plug, but latest stage of development), together with a new (rare find!) twin carb, exhaust etc.
But right now it's not worth taking pics of...

Hi Bart,

Any pictures of any Ro80 in any condition are always worth looking at!! If you like I can upload them to www.ro80rotormotor.co.uk. Send them to nsuro80@tiscali.co.uk

Good luck in your journey to the UK.

Welcome to the club. No discrimination amongst rotors here. As Martin said, if it wasn't for NSU, where would Mazda be? It took a lot of money and effort to make the rotary reliable and NSU had a big part in that.

Great website by the way. Have added it to My Favorites, will have a look through later.

I have the site bookmarked too, but can you explain why my computer crashes on it when I open it with IE but works perfectly ok with Netscape??? Only have that problem with rotormotor.co.uk ???
Anyway, I'll take some pics later and send them to you. The car isn't too bad, just in need of some welding (front lower chassis legs, under the driveshafts, have rusted badly) and paint. It has been a firm car, making it go through ten or fifteen years of carwash. The paint is really flat, almost like sandpaper actually.
Most other parts (chrome bits etc) are very good, esp for this age (1973). I have most chrome items new too, so it'll be shiney enough when done.

Hi again,

I have not come across that problem before. If it is crashing on the homepage but not any others then it might be the Flash animation of my Ro causing a conflict.

If this is the case then it may mean that there is an issue between your IE settings & image formats.

Thanks for the website compliments & look forward to receiving your pictures. I should add that I have been to car shows all spring & summer so www.ro80rotormotor.co.uk has been a tad neglected. I should start updating more during the coming weeks & months.

Many thanks.
