Hi Guys

I have never been out in cosmo and am coming round to the idea of getting one, 20b version.
Could anyone give me some feedback on how they reckon they handle, preferably with some decent suspension on if anyone has one like that. If anyone has also owned FC or FD, how does it compare to them. Is it more like say Grand Tourer handling or could they be quite sharp if fettled with in the right areas.

Cheers

Try mailing Glen Butcher he has owned both and is not afraid to throw them around :cool

I had the ECC-S 20B model which is the soft cruiser version :)

Chuck the Cosmo at a roundabout as I did a few times and it will roll heavily and get a bit scary, also very easy to brake traction with the amount of torque you have.Very relaxing car to do a journey in though,I always got out feeling fresh, could'nt say that about my RX-7! I think Glens was the S model which has the sports suspension, never got to ride in it though so not sure how it compares.

Crap brakes as well, you'll need to do something about these if you up the power. Some guys down under swap the brakes for 3rd gen RX-7 calipers on custom brackets, add Hawk pads and braking will improve dramatically.

Sorting the suspension for a more sportier feel would be no problem though, talk to Pip@WGT and he'll sort you out with a nice set of sports dampers.

Hope this helps.

PS can you afford the fuel? :)

Cheers John!

Yep - I like to throw cars around ;)

JC Cosmo is really a cruiser, sure you could spend money to get the suspension better - lowered with better shocks etc.. But they are a heavy car, and the standard brakes are not great at all.

FC = good, FD = very good

Thanks Guys. I appreciate the Cosmo is a heavy car to start with and this obviously doesnt lend itself to good handling in theory. So i kinda gather that with what you are saying is if money is spent in the right areas there is no reason why the handling/braking would not be a sharp package. I am very tempted by Brians one if he has not taken a deposit already, but i do have to sell my cab first. Perhaps if i ask Brian very very nicely he may let Tim take me up the road when it arrives @ RX.
Thanks

1640 Kg by all accounts.

The s version is a little bit lighter about 1560kg or there abouts. If you ditch the heavy Auto box and all three cats you'll save another shed load of weight. If you want i'll get mine weighed and let you know.

Take a 1570kg Type-S version. Remove the heavy standard exhaust & fit a sports exhaust. Save 30kg straight away. Fit light weight alloy wheels, save around 20kg.

Fit this adjustable suspension from Auto-Exe in Japan & she will handle almost like an RX-7

Check out below to see the details on their suspension...... Cosmo is at the bottom if you cant read it fully.
