Just wanted to introduce myself ;)

I'm 19 and currently driving around in a new mini cooper. In another 2 years the lease will be up so I'll be in the market for something a tad quicker.

I've been doing a spot of research on the RX-7 and decided it's the 3rd generation I want. Looks to die for, and apparently great handling too. After driving the mini, I think I've found that handling is just as important as power, so this seems a natural choice :)

Basically, I'm here two years early to try and gain some valuable knowledge of the car before I take the plunge, as I realise that they can be high maintainence machines ;)

Hope to meet some of you at an event in the future...

Hi Dom,

Great to see your interest in the RX-7, it is a brilliant car.

If you want handling, you will have it with the RX-7 - it is still years ahead of many other sports cars produced today with its suspension technology. Better still you will also have LOTS of power on tap!

If you were to take one for a test drive now, you would probably want to end the contract on your mini very quickly :)

In 2 years time the RX-8 will be out also, which would be worth considering - but of course the RX-7 will be much cheaper then as well.

As for purchasing one, same rules apply to that of purchasing a used piston engined car. It is also a good idea however to find one that is completely standard, as the tuning on the turbo rotary is very specialised and it has to be done right.

I like to buy standard cars before I modify, it gives a sense of personal achievement. I've been browsing through some of the threads on this board and have learnt a lot more than I thought I would!

I'd end the lease on the mini now if I could afford to insure an RX-7! It's in the garage tomorrow for a major leak to be sorted - believe me, if that leak had damaged the floor pan in anyway, the car would be rejected in a second and an rx-7 would be gracing my drive in the very near future. Being 19 though, I'm just gonna have to bide my time :rolleyes:

At the moment, I'm aiming on spending 10-15k on an Rx-7 when I sell the mini, so hope to have one in good nick. And being a similar price, I should have a lot more bang for my buck!
