Okie dokie - im movin back to ye ole blighty (from Western Australia) – and parting with my beloved first gen 7 – and will be (when finance allows) ‘slightly’ upgrading to a series 8 (ie 99+) 3rd gen RS -

Just wanting a lil bit of general info as to how UK insurance works (I know that the actual quote may vary greatly)

so my question is thus –

1 -does any one know if insurance will take into account my australian ncb or is this fanciful thinking on my behalf?? 2- does uk insurance take into account driving experience when calculating quotes ie amount of time licence held, fines etc etc . – if so will they count my oz years or will I start from scratch when I convert my license over?

And finally some of the amounts you are quoting sound horrific (at tha mo I pay 60 squid for 3rd party for my 1st gen and have done since I first got it at 19) - at what age (generally) does tha ole cost come down is it 25 – as in the AON age restriction?

Thanks in advance

As far as I know...

It will depend to some extent on the company, and will differ depending on who you talk to. I don't think many of them are likely to give you your ncb, but most will allow some provision for the fact that you do have that driving experience. (It generally works for people who have been driving around as a named driver on someone else's insurance, or company car drivers who have their premiums paid by the company) It may not be as much of a discount as the ncb would be, but they should give you some discount for experience.

As for the cost, 60 quid for third party at age 19 is unheard of. At 19, you'd be lucky to get a quote for under £500 here, and that wouldn't be a 1st gen, either. More like a citroen 2cv, or fiat panda (the horror!)

Quotes are supposed to start getting a fair bit cheaper at 25, but generally there's no cut off point, the older you are, the cheaper it gets. Even at 25, you'll be getting some ludicrous sounding quotes. Untill you're about 30-35 years old, you'll still see a noticable price drop for ever year older you are.

Hope that's some help :)

hi

strrtpizza is right. I would doubt you'd get a quote for less than £1000, people with full ncb have struggled with getting below £1500. As for the 1st gen, if you could get a quote when your 19 it would be for 2k+ probably, most places would just laugh at the thought though.
