So I'm facing an engine rebuild soon (already :reallymad ) and am trying to find out what best to do.
Is is worthwile going for some stronger parts (eg. race seals) considering that my max horsepower aim for the engine is some 350bhp?
What prices would I be looking at (for the different options)?
Who is recommendable for doing the rebuild (in UK, Belgium, Germany, ...)?
thx 4 the help

maybe a port on the engine would help getting 350bhp:D
i would recon an engine with seals should cost around £3000 depending on what needs replaced, but i am rubbish at guestimating. Best phoning a garage on the links page or give carl a pm(he builds engines)

350RWHP or flywheel?
You'll need a lot of other stuff to make 350 at the wheels e.g. fuel system etc etc etc.
A decent extend port and the new RX8 seals are probably a good option to consider considering your aim.

You will need to look at something like the new 2 piece 2mm Mazda seals, an uprated fuel configuration (uprated pump and fuel pressure regulator), ECU and a big turbo.
The engine would be ported somewhat, but you shouldnt need 3mm seals for that sort of power.

Are you thinking of Doing the Rebuild your self?
If you dont want to touch it i sugest Pip at WGT, he has VERY good Warantee and is very clued up on second gens. He does alot of Race cars so hes work is spot on. He is easly over looked as hes always Bussy so he does'nt advertise.

Just a quick question on rebuilds - if a Turbo II has got 100k miles under its belt, is it possible that it wouldn't yet require a rebuild? There's a car that I'm considering, but to my mind it seems like its probably overdue for a rebuild and would need a few k spent on it to sort the engine.

it all depends on whether it has been re-built before. T-II engines standard have been known to last over the 100k mark. I saw a t2 conv with 130000 miles and no rebuild and it ran well, dont know the compression though.
if the engine hasn't been re-built then it will need re-built if your going to tune it, otherwise if left standard it will be fine im sure. the only way to know for sure how healthy it is, is to get a compression test done.

All depends on what plans you have for it. First off check compression, to get a base line figure. If you intend to play, then a rebuild you will need.Change the oil every 2500miles or so.

No, I'm still interested in it but I think the buyer is asking a bit much for it considering a rebuild is highly likely to be needed soon. I'm not in any particular rush, just waiting for the right one to pop up.
