No never had that problem when I had the Bose headunit (rebadged clarion unit by the way). My car had a rebuild so no battery for a while but the head unit still worked, all be it totally rubbish never worked well from day one.

If it has got a code I would be very suprised, but you can get them put right. Have a look around your local yellow pages bet there is someone who can reset the code for you. Had the same problem years ago with a blaup... (sorry cant spell it) unit. The guy just plugged it into a laptop it worked out the old code and then he assigned it a new code simple job when you've got the right equipment.

Is this the original jap headunit, would advice on getting a nice uk headunit works better alround. Swapped mine for a nice panasonic unit, go on treat yourself.......hope this helps cheers Leigh.

Any problems when you did your swap? I'm about to do mine; I've currently got the 2 DIN BOSE Cd & casette system, with the acoustic wave in the boot. I've just taken the acoustic wave out, it's got a six cable connector, I understand that the acoustic wave has got a built in amp, so 4 cables are for sound and 2 are for power, is this correct? I'm assuming that the speakers in the front doors are unpowered, so all I need to do is put a new UK head in, a connector converter, and new speakers in the back; is this right?

Any advice would be appreciated! I'm not that worried about the sound quality, at the moment I just want a system which works, and the benefit of having more boot space!

Hi Mave, I ripped out the cd player and casette player as well. But I kept the aucoustic wave system in the boot. You are correct about the amp supplying the rear but not the front. You can find the amp under the rear seats some people say they found it under the passenger seat, not sure if they are all the same.

There should be a connector which you can fit too the new unit it's just like plug and play. This should just supply the front speakers for you, from memory I think you need to splice the rears in to the front speakers. Must admit I did the change over with a mate who has a better understanding than me of hifi electrics. But if you have removed the Bose from the rear you should have no reason for the extra wiring.

Too fill the gap under the new headunit I had some dials fitted oil pressure, exhaust temp and oil temp. This filled up the hole left from the double din unit. You can buy a cubby box too fill the hole if you would rather do this. You can get a cubby box from most places like Halfords, but you can also get them from MX5PARTS they will deliver also.

Hope you get the job done ok best regards Leigh.
