guys,

I am gonna be installing some gauges in the spare single din at the bottom... this usually contains a little storage thingy for general junk and CD's with a push operated front...

I need to know how to remove this from its position.... there does seem to be two small holes on each side... are these retaining screws?...

anybody doen this before.. was not sure which part of the forum this should go under... but I thought this would be best suited..

thanks for any help

its looking more and more like it is hack saw and hammer time unless anybody can stop me from wrecking my interior by letting me know of any information..

tell me or the car gets it....

I'm sure a hacksaw wasn't needed mate! I've just got home, but would have been no use to you anyway as mine came with 2 empty single dins. One now blanked off with a VW blanking plate.

still no luck...

have got my single din gauge holder now and want to put it in place with my new boost gauge....

does no body know how to get it out...?

I am about to install a small custom plate into my DIN slot to house a DEFI 1/2 DIN Link controller. I've had it all apart before but can't remember the trick. Will let you know once I've got it sorted.

Cheers, Craig

that would be cool

cheers craig....

gonna have a go tonight again... think it might just click out, but there are some holes either side which I am not sure if they are screw hgoles or just 'there'

anyway... cant be that difficult..... can it?

finally figured it out last night when I had a spare hour...

cut a wire hanger into four small lengths and inserted it into the four small holes on either side of the unit... working one side at a time I found that there are some little press clips holing the unit in... once one side was out I could get the other side out and the unit just slid out...

will post pics later when I have a spare moment or hour!!!

Sounds like a far better solution than the hacksaw and hammer method you were originally proposing !!

Cheers for the info, will save me trying to do a hack job as well.

That sounds like the usual car-stereo locking system used by Phillips... you can buy a little official hook thingymajig tool from car audio stores for removing them, but you've already discovered the more common solution - coathanger does the job just fine :)
