My car's almost ready to pick up, so I'm looking at getting a head unit for it.
I've decided to go with this (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4041&cadid=36804fc067a3babed1cadae3eac86d42) mainly because of the ability to play MP3s off DVD, major bonus for me (I hate having discs lying about).
What else am I going to need to get it to fit properly in the car? At the moment it just has some Japanese Addzest double-DIN unit. Obviously I'm going to need some sort of spacers/brackets to fit a single DIN unit in there, but what? And do I need any wiring adapters or anything?

ooohhhh i like it !!
you MAY need the iso adapter for it - i know i did for my FC now you have two choices here
1 - pay £17.99 at halfrauds for it
2 - go to http://www.cpc.co.uk - look in their catalogue and mine cost me about £4.64 - but i collected mine - even with delivery it should be cheap
hope this helps

If you're going for that head unit, gert yourself an iPod, plug it into the Aux input and never have to worry about burning CD's or DVD's with mp3's ever again!
If you're purchasing an FD, it has two cross bars at the rear of the head unit hole. And it really is a hole. The double din will hopefully have a pair of brackets (left and right) holding it together which you can use to screw into two cages to input the single Din head unit and a tray, or a guage holder, or a blank off panel etc. A protruding metal bar screws into the back of the head unit which you pass through one of the two metal bars of the FD's hole, with the aid of a rubber gromet (which should come with the head unit) which secures the unit from wobbling free at the back.
I have also seen its possible to buy a pre made cradle for the FD, but I have no idea where from. A guy was selling one on ebay a couple of weeks back.
If you are fitting an amp - be aware that there is VERY LITTLE SPACE behind the head unit. It is possible toget cables behind there, but be prepared to do some cursing etc.
Good luck! :wave

I've already got an iPod, I don't want to sod around with plugging it into the car though.
I've got the double-din unit here, and it's got the 2 brackets, so sounds like it shouldn't be too much trouble. Might even get Gareth at Newera to drop it in when I go to pick the car up, prolly take him 2 minutes :)
Cheers for the info

All jobs on the REX take 2 mins! 2 hours later... :rollin
cheers
Oh, it takes seconds to plug the Pod into the Aux and run your full library wherever you go btw. It's really no hassle - I wont go back to cd's! unless my unit breaks. ;)

dunno whether this will apply to you if yours already has an aftermarket hu, but mine came with the standard bose unit which didn't work too well, so i replaced it with my clarion from my previous car. i got the iso adapter block to plug it in, but still wasn't getting any sound through. it turned out the speakers in the car have little amps with them, and the output from the stock hu is low power, but the output from my clarion hu is preamped so this was overloading the amp switches and causing them to not come on (otherwise they would blow). i didn't fancy attempting to fix it myself, so i booked it in a local ICE installer and they bypassed the individual speaker amps so that it worked, and the whole thing only cost 1/2 an hours labour so wasn't bad.

this is a bit of a coincidence but ive just posted some pics of my dash in another thread and my stereo is the same as the 1 your looking at :rollin it has a aux socket at the front and thats 1 of the reasons i bought it so i can plug my jukebox 10gb mp3 in.
as long as you dont have the bose system in, you should have no probs just buying a jap to uk adaptor and plug and play sorta thing..its that easy..only problem ive noticed with this head unit is when you try and put the face on or eject a cd the electrical areil keeps going up&down. the remote is 3inch and fits nicely in the ash tray :cool
