This is prolly aimed mainly at Flectron and OLSKOOLROTAR but can I have some advice and approx costs on bringing a car over from downunder and getting it MOT'd for the U.K.
It'll prolly cost way over what I can afford  but it's a nice dream anyway.

As a rough indication:
Cost of your old skool AUS$12,000 for e.g.
Sterling conversion, say $2.35/£ = : £5106
shipping from aus, say £550-750 including some admin/dereg fees etc?
So 'car shipped' = £5856
On entry:
Duty at 10% on 'car shipped' value = £6442
then: VAT at 17.5% on 'car shipped+duty' value = £7569
Basically you pay 29% of the (cars value plus shipping costs) upon entry in duty and vat. Then compliance costs and road tax, say a 100 or 2 on top with a bit of luck...

Does the aussie government not leave off the import tax on peoples cars when they import them if they have owned them for at least 1 year over seas? I read this if I can remember rightly on an aussie gov website a few years ago when I looked at importing a skyline from japan when I lived there.
If this is true then it would save a fair wack off the cost.??
cheers, michael.

Theres similar legislation in the UK - if you can prove ownership over seas for 12 months or some thing I tihnk. I'm pretty sure they have tightened it up to avoid abuse though. The importers will probably know...

so roughly £3,000? since i already own the car and it would have to come the extra distance from NZ

less than that i reckon
but i know dick about importing your own car..
i would guess shipping plus a bit of duty/ tax (calculated on shipping cost) and registration/mot/road tax.
1500 maybe?
[edit] hmmm maybe that's :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:.
might be calculated on value of car. but that could be a grey area.. cost you 10 bux when you bought it right? ;)
