Hi all,

in my seemingly never ending search for insurance, Elephant are now informing me that they do not offer policies on RX-7 FD-3S import or not, I was very suprised at this as a lot of forum posters here say they DO have policies with them.

The guy at Elephant was very sure about this and said that anyone who thinks they are insured with them would not be covered correctly.

Thought I should let you all know.

Chris.

Hmm, I don't think I wuld trust Elephant.co.uk now. I have 3 scenarios now: -

1) "We do not insure the FD-3S"
2) Poeple on the forum saying they have insurance with Elephant.co.uk for import FD-3S'
3) Elephant.co.uk email quotes for the FD-3S

All this is very confusing. I have noticed that their drop down list of RX-7's in their online quote is also very confusing. I'm wondering if they are insuring people without fully realising what it is they are insuring, perhaps incorrectly selecting the wrong RX-7. This would mean that a lot of people are driving around with invalid insurance - worrying to say the least.

It could be that, but it could also be that you spoke to a numpty on the phone who doesnt understand what FD3S is.

I spoke to an insurance company and got asked what type of RX7 is was, as there was a few on his list. So I say "Type R".
His response was "no we cant insure that, we only have listed 2.6 Coupe Turbo etc."
I then said "yeah that will be the one, put it in as that"
"im sorry sir, I cant do that, thats not the same car you just told me you had and you wont be covered"
"yes it is"... conversation goes on :D

I must have educated countless insurance people whilst trying to get insured :bandit

Elephant.co.uk DO insure import R-7's

FACT

Just try again and ask to speak to the person who has the brain cell at the time

Insurance companies tend to say they don't insure it if they
A. can't be bothered
B. Get confused
C. See you as a high risk
D. Aren't competitive

Hello,

yep, you are right, the "Elephant handlers" are a bit ignorant when it comes the RX-7.

But after I had declared the mods, they said they could not insure me.

Bugger. :(

thanks though.

What engine mods do you have?

Hardly any, just a Knight Sports carbon fibre look cold air induction kit with KN air filter. The only other perfomance mod is an Apexi rear exhaust section.

I had a lot of hassle with Elephant over my insurance, there wern't any probs at first until I sent them the V5. As it was an import it shows cc as 1300, but as we told Elephant it was a 2600 (which as everyone knows is just a rating for insurance companies and the like!) they said we insured it incorrectly.

Anyway, after explaining this they were persisant that a 1.3 that is equivalent to a 2.6 must be a modified engine!!
And therefore they wouldnt insure me!#
And then another discussion arose about whether it was a coupe or not, we were saying it was, they were saying it wasn't and we were due a refund of over £400!

To their credit though it all got sorted out in the end, cover note has car down as a 2.6 and as a coupe and with the exhaust, body kit and alloys in the mods section, weve been assured that we are fully covered now (touch wood!) plus we still got the refund!:D
I think it depends whos on the other end of the phone, some of them just can't get the concept of rotaries! but most are really helpful, be persistent, you should get there in the end!
