View Full Version : Raising suspension

As i've just got my new 18's and the car came with lowered Cusco suspension, the tyres rub on the top of the arches, and as im not exactly fond of the idea of having my arches rolled, i was wondering if there was anything i could put in my suspension springs to raise it half and inch or so.

i bought some rubber ring assistors from a caravan place that should do the job on normal cars, but the springs are too compressed with this suspenion for it to fit in :(

any ideas anyone??

Ryan, are the Cusco units coilovers? (Two springs, one main and one helper (weedy)) If they are at the bottom of the springs you will have some a couple of winders that push against the springs. By winding these up the damper leg, this raises the ride height of the car. If they dont, you will need to look at getting some other springs.

it came with this suspension and to be honest i know next to nothing about it or what it does

i can see two sets of springs as you mentioned and something on the bottom that looks like it twists, almost looks like two bits on the bottom, does this adjust the ride height or the stiffness of the suspension???

not really sure what im talking about here :rollin

i dont suppose you could tell of these pics could you??

Yep they are the adjustable ones.

You need a C spanner that locks into the grooves on the ring then wind the collar up however much you need to raise the ride height then lock it off with the second one.

thats good news :D

so i screw the top of the bottom two rings upwards (does this stop at the max height, i dont want to go screwing it too far!!)

and then i screw the second one up to meet it??

will this affect the handling??

many thanks

I don't think they have stops. You'll have to measure the change and make sure its the same on each corner.

Changing the ride height will affect the handling. Your car looks like its as low as it will go at the moment so raising it slightly might actually help the handling

If you look around the Tein (http://www.tein.com) website they have the manual to thier suspension. Although a different make the setup procedure is the same.

thanks very much for the help mike & dan, i'll get on the job tomorrow!!

also made me realise how filthy they are so going to give them a good clean first!! :)

oh and one more question, is a c-spanner a fairly common tool, i.e. halfords or b&q trip, or is it a fairly specialist thing??

I doubt Halford or B&Q would have one ... I bought one from Demon Tweeks but the local "performance" parts shop may sell one
