£4800 for my car (Its been confirmed written off).

Needless to say, I told them that would come nowhere near to replacing my car.

This was a price from some import book or something, which I obviously dont have. He said well how much do you think it would be so I said about 8000, there arnt many decent RX7's for less than that. He said if I wanted he could look on the net see whats around and see if they can increase the price. The only problem with that is the guy is off all next week so I wont hear anything.

Well obviously I told them I didnt care about a week and they will need to look on the internet at prices.

I want a better offer than this. Makes you wonder what the point in saying the car is worht 8k in the first place is :reallymad

Lee, hope you get this sorted, insurance companies are getting worse by the month. As you say, why do we put a value on the car when insuraning it.

Hi Lee,

Seeing as you are a club member we would be prepaired to write you a letter from Mazdarotaryclub.com to your insurance company stating what we consider your vehicles value to be in pre accident condition and the fact that we would consider that £4800 would only buy you a car that needs lots of work!

lf you would like to send me full description of your cars condition ( inc Mods you have told them about) and any pics of the car pre squashed plus full contact details for the insurance Co we will get you something drafted up next week and sent if you want.
Send to clive@mazdarotaryclub.com

Hope this may be of help,
Clive

p.s. lt may be of use to others to think about (as l did ) haveing an agreed value policy on your cars, we write letters quite often for members to insurance companys for this reason.

Have you considered getting your own independant 'Insurance Assesor' I beleive they can be very helpfull when disputing a claim.

Dont take any :censored::censored::censored::censored: from them!

When I killed my 94 Import in Dec 2001 they guy rang to say it was a write off and that he'd be prepared to offer me £6K. The insurance certificate had value of £13K on it. He gave me all the usual crap about most imports being crashed rubbish that are worth about 3p.

In the end (I was trying not to laugh at him!) I said some thing along the lines of roughly "Look, I paid £12.5K for it, it was a very good example and I looked after it very well with regular servicing and all that :censored::censored::censored::censored:. I want a replacement like for like and you can talk as much crap in my ear as you want - the fact of the matter is - looking at the trader this week - I'd need more like £11K to get another one any where near as good. When you've had a look at some adverts and are prepared to be reasonable then give me a call back" - before giving a polite "Speak to you soon" and hanging up.

I ended up with a cheque for £10K inside of a week - which I was quite happy with as my car wasnt that a great a car! I got a nice silver '96 from Newera in the end - which I love :-)

This was with AON. Their service (apart from the :censored::censored::censored::censored:-taking loss adjuster) was EXCELLENT in sorting the claim out. Unlike Chris Knott the brokers I used. They are useless and I will be sure to go direct to AON in future when I have to insure the FD again.

Dont let them bend you over, tell em it was a nice one and find adverts in the press to suggest a more acceptable settlement figure...

HTH,
Rich

PS I trust you'll be getting another FD!! I didnt give it a second thought :-)

Thing is it was a nice one!

Just gone through all of autotrader and only found about 2 or 3 I even like the sound of, and they were all pretty expensive!

Yes I definatly want another FD (already looking around). Its just going to be a case of can I still get insured now, as that will be No NCB and a claim going onto my record.

They are going to find adverts and send me a letter, so I shall await that and see if they offer anything near whats its worth. If not, then I will see what I do.
