Mike, on you way to Japs, you could always stop off at mine and give my FD a nice wash and wax. :wave

certainly but you do realise it would have to include a half hour test drive to dry it off before the wax :rollin

Mike, test drives are good, but later in the year would be better. :D

Congrats on the MOT - the car is looking really well. That's still my favourite colour ...... well, that and a really well-kept red maybe.

I'm not keen on red .. it looks nice but its a bugger to keep from fading + people don't seem to be able to see red cars at night for some reason (had lots of people pulling out on me in the 323 but none in the rx ? ? and other people have said the same thing too )

Some people don't even see red cars during day time. Like that 79-year old guy who drove into my Mariah when I was standing to give way at a roundabout!
And, Mike, good to hear it passed MOT right away! Now you can take her on a long trip, and visit me! :D :wave

Looks mint , nice car . What do they check on a mot ? Are they pretty tightarse and what emissions limits are there ?

MikeLMR
6th July 2003, 01:44 PM
They check the chassis for corrosion , the steering and suspension for play and visual faults, they visually inspect the brakes , check the lights , wipers , horn etc. etc. then a brake force test to check they are working correctly.

The emissions testing for pre 87 rotarys is just a visual smoke test :cool

so they dont actually stick anything up the pipe to measure it ?

MikeLMR
7th July 2003, 04:24 PM
nope just a visual check for excessive smoke

So you could have a dirty big turbo , mega power and no smoke and they wouldnt care ?

YEP :p

So do they actually check engine numbers etc correspond or it doesnt matter like here in Australia ? Any other rules which restrict running rotors ?

MikeLMR
8th July 2003, 04:59 PM
its not very strict at all ... as long as you can insure it just about anything goes engine wise on an old car

theres still noise limit though ...101 Db @ 4500rpm I think

So who actually does the noise test ? is it done at the mot ? Do you have to insure ?

Yes, you do have to insure - and it can be EXPENSIVE with a lot of mods!!

Modified FD's are particularly nasty which is a shame cause I have a couple of 20B's for mine :-(

As Mike says though - old motors can get away with murder; you thinking of emigrating Al? It's cold and wet mate :-)

Errrrr just a thought , am a pommy originaly and was thinking of a few years back in the homeland for a bit of fun , just wondering whats required if I bring my Series 2 ( 1982 ) over with me . How much hassle I will get and ways around the system

Ahh, cool...

Wouldnt have thought it would be too much hassle to be honest. An early 92 FD imported from japan just needs an MOT to make legal pretty much. You need to check about import and VAT and make sure you do it right to avoid what you can - I forget what you dont have to pay if you've owned the car out of the country for +6 months...

How's Evil7 going btw?

I was just thinking of shipping it over and buying a cheap UK one with rego and sticking the rego plates onto it . Cant be stuffed with all this compliance crap , evil 7 is good and sends its regards :)
