got an MOT test tommorow and I have a feeling this will be the last one for the current exhaust system (Rust In Peace downpipe :( ) I have been looking around on and off for the past year for a suitable exhaust and not had much luck ... therefor I am thinking about have a "one off" system made by a specialist company. Has anyone had this done and do they have any recomendations.
These are the options I have tried so far
WGT - Exhaust suplier lost jigs when I asked last year .. no reply to recent e-mails .. is Pip ever in ?
Hurley ? - wasn't too impressed by the manifold pics on their webssite
Rotechniks - fairly thin walled stainless and rough looking engine flange
Racing beat - Shipping and taxes = £££'s
janspeed - cheap and tinny according to many I have talked too
Genuine Mazda - £££'s and no HP gain
Aussie supliers - again taxes and shipping = ££££'s !
this is why I have started to look into the specialist exhaust manufacturers
tube torque - http://www.tubetorque.co.uk/ meant to be good, but a long way to travel
longlife exhausts - http://www.exhausts.uk.com/ - advertised in the club mag .. .anyone used them ?
wunoff http://www.wunoff.co.uk/ - meant to be very good (found them through a kit car magazine and practical classics)
Does anyone have any recomendations ? I don't mind travelling within reason.

Hi Mike,
I haven't had an exhaust made up in this country - but plenty of experience with exhausts in Australia.
Main thing would be to get a stainless system, and for a little extra cost make sure the system is a genuine mandrel bend (not a pipe bend type).
If you do go this route, you will probably need 1-2 resonators in the system with a decent baffled rear muffler to keep the noise down.
Also - send Clive a PM, as I think he can actually get a hold of exhausts for your car.
Hope this helps mate!

Mike, you already know my opinion on my Powerflow exhaust, even if others have had negative opinions.build quality is superb, sound is AWESOME,and it only cost £370 for a full system.just offering my 2p worth!

where did you get that sorted ?
passed its MOT no problems today (only visual emmissions check HAHAHAHA ) but I think it could do with sorting as there are no baffles left in the back box and its sounding a bit sick because of it
gave it a good clean and took some photos to celebrate it passing 1st time :D

Mike, and for those looking for exhausts to be made up.
Hayward and Scott in Basildon, Essex make stainless systems inc. custom one off's.
I will find the link to their website and post it up later.
Dan
PS. I used these many times on my scoob, and have nothing but respect for Ian and the boys there.

Think I've finally made my mind up ... I'm hoping to have an exhaust made by Tube Torque to these specs.
2 x 2" primary pipes all the way to the diff ;) With a large straight through silencer on both (or a dual to save ££'s) the a collector at the diff and into a 2.5" over axle pipe and into a large almost straight through rear silencer.
Hoping to base it on the following photos I've found on my many travels searching out quiet yet free flowing exhaust designs over the past few days.
Manifold (notice no collector)

Any ideas then guys (could do with some Aussys to tell me where I'm going wrong really :D .. they seem to have it sussed)
Its should all be nice thick walled tubing (1.6mm or 16 gauge) and the silencers will be stainless wool packed too so it should last OK.

:)
Going to be loud!
Try and get them to put the exhaust up and over the diff - you may have problems with it bottoming out if it is under the diff.

it is going to be very loud.. but hey.. why not... we have a very powerful car and people should know were comming.
anyway i have the second gen and i am going to get mine made up .. one off.
i was hoping to find something cheap.. ie whole system but havnt yet.. all rediculous pricings.

Hi To you all,
I think that you will find the system to be too loud.
I have expeirience of racing exhaust on 12a naturally aspirated and they have more silencers than the sytem you are proposing and still the noise is around 100 to 104 DB.If you intend to go on trackdays and not want too much attention from the police on the road I think I can have a system made for you that will be a good compromise.
I am currently developing a system for the FD RX7 which will be up and running next week, after that I can look at yours if you like.
Kind regards
Carl
PS what is the cost of your proposed system?

I'm not sure yet ... Still awaiting a quote from Tube torque
Sounds like it'll be too loud for me then ... I wanted somthing below the track day limit 95Db's
I'd definetly be Interested Carl ... the exhaust I have at the moment is better than I thought it was (not blowing) but the silencers are shot and its sounding sick.
What about the same style system with a baffled rear box ( I think I may of got my qires crossed as the Aussy's are using a brand name back box of unknown construction and getting low Db readings (rotaflow?)
Like you said I'm looking for a compramise no Police attention seeking noise levels but a system that won't be too restrictive.

Hi Mike,
i think I have got a system that uses some of the ideas that you want to use with a special back box design that is straight through but not too noisy.

can you PM me with your ideas .... I'm keen to learn about exhaust design as its somthing new to me and as usual I'm a nosey design engineer by trade so I like to know how somthing works :D
I'll not be back on the forum till tommorow now as I'm heading down to Prodrive for a tour ... should have some photo's too.
Hopefully they might have a few RX8's knocking about

i got my quote today. it is going to cost me 350 for a full system. this is from the manifold. .. to the end.
complete system. i am not sure if i should have it chromed or stainless steel.
i was given those options as well.
the choices
ps the system i am using or having made up if for 4 tail pipes to come out .. not sure is going to use the normal possition (the back) or i might try having 2 on each side of the car..
hmm
anyway it isnt a bad price i though.
:)

Got a quote back from Tube Torque today ... £690 for the full system
The Stainless exhaust supliers that advertise in the magazine want £900+ and I wasn't convinced they knew quite what they were doing with an NA rotary
You have PM Carl

bloody heck.. 650 is bad enough.. 900+ is silly.
mine is a na as well.
your getting ripped off
look in the yellow pages under welders. and see if there is anyone who does engineering...
they advertise.. i didnt know this until i needed my exhaust..
they guys there are very very sure they can not only give me the look i want but the sound.
they have dont classic cars..
and say that alot of there private work if for motor bikes.. like custom harleys..
so what i am trying to say is I am only paying 350
and this is for a full custom made exhaust.. that has a total of 4 exits..
still the two back boxes.
this is dropping from the down pipes back;.
hmmm
