Hi Guys and Girls, me again. Need a quick response please, have been offered a set of 18's and need to know if anyone is running 18's out there. If you are, what tyres sizes, offset etc etc are you using and do you have any adverse affects(rubbing, bad handling etc etc).

Jet, people are running 18’s, only problem appears to be increased tram lining and a little bit of a harsher ride.

Offset should be around ET 30-43. But I recommend trying them against the car first, or get the option to return them.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for that mate, any idea what size tyre, profile people are using mate.

Jet, depends on the width of the wheels.

Standard size is 225/50/16's on the earlier models, then swapped to 235/45/17's front and 255/40/17's for the rears.

So with 18's you want to look at 215/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear. This way you shouldnt get rubbing on the wheel arches.

But again you wont know until they are on the car.

Upload file allows you to try out different sizes and calculate which is the best fit. Remember that you have to use the correct width wheels.

would it be possible to fit supra blitz alloys on the seven??

a set i want are for sale quite cheap, FRONT WHEELS ARE 8.5X18 AND REARS ARE 10X18

would these be ok on a 3rd gen?? :)

Ryan, so long as the offset if close enough, it should be a problem.

What size tyre would you look at fitting to the front? 8.5 is only slightly bigger than OE, would normally go for something like 9 or 9.5 wide

they have tyres on already, eagle f1's on the front, toyo proxes on the rear, the offset of the front is 30 apparently, and the rear is 40, thats all i know at the moment

I would try and try them on the car BEFORE paying for them. Then if they rub, you dont have to buy them. ;)

just found out the fronts are 235/40/18 and the rears 265/35/18 so they should fit snugly. sadly i wont be able to try them before i buy them but i am getting them at a bargain hopefully so if worst come to worst i will sell them for more :) :D

I think your fronts will rub just a little with 30 offset on 235/40 x 18.

But should only be occuring close to full steering lock on the front section of the inner arch by the oil coolers.

The rears could do with a little more offset also. Your outside edge might be pretty close to rubbing the arch if you have lowered suspension.

Try before you buy is always best!

Max

Also behind the front arch covers there is some wiring looms for the pop up lights.

well its a risk im gonna have to take as sadly i cant try them before and its a bargain but as my car is lowered then they could be a problem, but im sure i can sell them for more than buying them for as blitz alloys are usually in high demand :)

well i went ahead and bought them

fronts offset et30, 235/40/18

rear offset et40 265/40/18

my cars been lowered so slight rubbing should only occur if i have passengers in the back i should imagine, the 17's i have on at the moment have a fair bit of room, and i shouldnt imagine 18's with lower profile tyres being too much different

anyways heres me new babies :)

These are the ones from e-bay! I enquired about these and the selled said, I quote:
"REARS ARE ET30 OFFSET AND FRONTS ARE ET 35. RX7 WILL TAKE A 10" WHEEL ON REAR BUT YOU MAY NEED ARCH MOD WITH 30 OFFSET. FRONTS WILL FIT FINE".

Not wanting to mod the wheel arch I stayed well clear.

Let us know if it fits (and of course let us know the correct offset for future reference).

:D yes they are!

he never said that to me he said et40 on the rear and et30 on the front. and on the phone he said fitment should be fine, so fingers crossed they will be ok.

im sure the arches wont be very expensive to get a bodyshop to do if needs be

i'll let you know when they're on, should be arriving tomorrow! :)

right i got them on and the fronts are fine, only rub slightly at full lock, the rears are the problem when you get to any sort of speed, so what exactly is an arch mod and is it easy/expensive to do??

im going to try to raise the car slightly see if that helps

anyway heres a pic:

Wheel work really well. Rolling the arches is best left to a body shop/coach works (no Clive, not you!). They know how to do this.

Raising the suspension may negate the need to roll the arches. Worth trying first.

I knew they would look good!!

If the wheel fits inside the arch - you may get away with just flattening the inner edge/lip of the arch - that should take care of about 5-10mm. Best done by a bodyshop though!

See you Sunday ?

whats happening sunday???

------------------

i took the wheels off and saw where it took the paint off inside the rear lip, its only marginal, i was going to bend them in slightly but i will leave that to a bodyshop, for a temporary solution i am going to get those rubber things you can place in your suspension to raise it slightly :)

the only other problem is with those offsets the rear protude slightly from the rear end, and wheels sticking out is illegal is it not??

so i think im going to be ordering some rear flares for it, i've been looking at the mazdaspeed 15th anniversary ones, havent seen many others except some RE rear ones which i dont like as much

Ryan, as far as I know the law requires that the wheel not stick out further than the arch. So you will get away with that. ;)

as long as the top of the arch is wider than the wheel you are OK + I doubt many MOT inspectors will pull you up on it even if it didn't.

thats the prob, they are wider than the arches, prob because of the wrong offset, so am looking for some fender flares to buy now :)
