Just look at this thing, it is awesome. It is meant to be quicker than GT Porches in NZ. Built by Alec and the team at www.kiwi-re.com in New Zealand.

Quote from their site:
Jack and Tony Broomes 1979 series 1 RX7.
This RX7 is built for endurance racing. This car is very well known here in New Zealand and has been a race car since 1990. The car has had numerous engine combinations but here is the latest combo in the car which is a 13B turbo engine with Motec computer system. Kiwi-RE looks after every aspect of the car and has carried out all the fabrication work, tuning and building of the car.

Hi Mike,

Yeah - I believe the engine outputs a reliable 550hp (they have raced in 6 hour event) and many other circuit events in NZ.

It has a T66 turbonetics turbo.

I WANT I WANT!

Once back home, you'll be able to get one!

Right :)

Got an update from Alec, it doesn't have a T66 on it - but just a GT35/40 Ball Bearing turbo.

Email from Alec here:

G,Day Glenn how are you? The blue RX7 has a garret GT35/40 turbo on it and it has 457HP at 6700rpm. It also does this power with under a bar of boost. It is built for endurance racing so as less stress as possible that is why the hand made induction system to flow better than standard. We were going to fit a T66 but wanted power from 3000-7000 rpm only so we opted for the smaller turbo. It does not produce any power over 7000rpm. We wanted to keep the revs down for the reliability.
It does go real good. Alec

What sort of porting does it have? Will Alec tell us?

I also always thought that the GT35/40 was a bigger turbo than the T66, as his comment about not wanting to stress the engine and using a GT35/40 goes against what little I know.

Hi Dan,

Yeah - I have asked him some more, he is always a little secretive about these things.

I know it would be a big $ engine (I have asked him about the turbo exhaust housing size also).

I'll keep you posted mate.

Email in from Alec:

G'Day Glenn, yes that is a GT35/40 with the 1.05 exhaust housing. She has a Holinger 6speed sequential box in her. We run on very hard tyres and also do not race it hard so we don't even take it to its full potential anyway. We do puke in 1.02 and V8 supercars runs at 57sec so a bit of difference. Marks (Mark Porter's 3rotor PP) JGTC car ran a 58sec at puke (http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Tracks/pukekohe.htm) when the V8 supercars were also running 58secs in 1997. I have modified the ports on the engine. Cheers Alec

That is fast! :)
