Hey,

Got a problem with leaking water. Taking it to my mechanic tomorrow but was wondering if Rex's have a tendency to deposit air conditioning condensation.

It was leaking from the drivers side at the front today, stopped after a while. I don't seem to be loosing much water. Drove it back home and it's started leaking from the bottom where the door starts on the passenger side

I know it's probably something more serious (hope it's not) but was just wondering if they do deposit the condensation?

Thanks

Andy

Andy sounds like the water expansion tank, these do split.

Check the coolant level just behind the drivers side headlight.

thanks dan yer a star, it does look :censored::censored::censored::censored:e to be honest, think it may have a split somwhere, plus its worked itself a bit loose... next question if it is, where do I get one of those funky metal ones from?

Steve/Andy, I was not on about the AST, but it could also be that. They tend not to leave a puddle, just mist!

I am on about the one with just the filler neck behind the driverside headlight.

Yeah Dan I had a look at that after you said and it seems corroded at the joint to the tank so I think that'll need replacing. The AST is a bit crappy too, I'll find out tm what's causing it no doubt :(

cheers for yer help again much appreciated!

Hey Andy

How could you see the bottom of the bottle ? I remember trying and there was too much in the way

heres my opinion though someone might shoot me down

Mine :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed out everywhere cos my thermostat went
, you might have just overfilled it, it has an overflow, and when the thermostat closes and it fills up again it :censored::censored::censored::censored:es out if there is too much in there

I hope it's something like that mate... just seems odd

Only started doing it at the pod yesterday, had a hot drive there so had the air con on full wack. Anyway I noticed it leaking, I moved it back a bit to see if it was me and surely it was. It stopped leaking after a while which led me to think it was the air con.

Anyway drove it home and looked to see if it was leaking again and sure enough it was but not in the same place, it was going from the underneath on the oppoiste side.

I've been all round the engine and can't see anywhere it's leaking from. This was happening only after I drove, but a close inspection of the plastic funnel that fills the coolent up showed what seems to be a big crack where it connects to the main tank, so could be that... i dunno to be honest, just have to wait to see what my mechanic says I guess... just hope its nothing bad, dont mind replacing bits of plastic :)

hmm well just got back from my mechanics and we found out the AST is becoming extremely full and it chucks it over to the overflow tank and it's coming out of the overflow tanks little release.

He seems to think it could be a blocked radiator or a head gasket gone???

Really need to get it tested can anyone recommend anywhere near Bedfordshire / North London way?

thanks again guys :(

When the car is cold, start the car and then after about ten seconds remove the cap on the thermostat housing. If water starts coming out, then it means the sysytem is being pressurised. This more than likely means that a water seal is bad and you will need a rebuild. How long have you had the car? where did you get it?

Which one is the thermostat housing cap mate, still trying to get my way round the engine. Only had the car 3 weeks, was a Newera car, had a rebuild circa 10k ago so SHOULD be fine.

I have it booked in for the 27th to check it over. Car seems totally fine other than this intimitant leaking from the overflow tank when it's been used hard.

cheers Andy

Andy, the thermo. housing is the one with the little knobs sticking out the side, the AST is just a round cap.

Looking in the engine bay from the front bumper, the one on top of the belts.

Cheers, I will give that a go when she's called right down. I've been in touch with Miguel from Newera and he reckons i've just overfilled it, would make sence seems as it only started happening since it was topped up at Japfest... hard to tell with that dipstick thing Mazda supply, but gonna keep it booked in for the 27th and if it keeps doing it then i'll run it down there.

thanks fer yer help!

*fingers crossed*

i hope you were kidding about the head gasket. you know a rotary has no head gasket. or heads for that matter. lol anyways you should check the coolant level for like a week. i always check it at the thermostat. make sure it doesnt have any air in there or its not bubbling. bubbling means bad coolant o-rings.
