Mainly for interest to the 2nd gen crowd, but engine related

Has a link to the recent article which compared carbs to EFI for a ported 6-port 13B. Although I don't agree with everything said there, it makes for very interesting reading, especially when you see that you can get a very respectable 226HP out the old 6-ports with the right intake and EFI on it.

The power band is pretty flat with over 220HP from 7200-8500RPM.

There are still some things that are niggling me on this, but I need to do some more thinking to try and work out what's going on., but at the least it'll be worth getting that 6-port off alastair's car rebuilt and shoved in something mk1.

Hi Bill,

The 6 port engines are very good, I think though that the original RX-4 13B engines are brilliant also.

You can easily achieve 220hp out of a mild port with a Webber, or slightly more with fuel injection.

In a light car they are very quick indeed.

Natch. What do you think is dry sumped ported and ready to go in the westfield as soon as I get the garage straight :-) I hope to hit 230 once I have some exhaust issues sorted out, maybe a little more. A lot of power is lost in the exhaust sleeves. I want it back.

However people have said for years that you can't get good power out the 6-port. Not true and here's proof. Dave Lemon of mazdatrix has a great looking racing convertable which he is getting silly HP at 10K with ceramic seals.
