wot i need to do to register the car to be road legal when it arrives in UK???any special procedures and cost????thanks for advice

best talk to one of the importers on this site ... BNA_ELLIS for example.

My understanding is that if the car is under 10 years old it will need an SVA test and then you will have to apply to the DVLA with your ministry of transport approval certificate to get a UK registration.

Hi Sam,

You will need:

A completed V55/5 form
HM Customs cert.
SVA cert (if under 10 years old)
MOT (if over 3 years)
You will need a certificate of insurance

DVLA will allocate a number plate for you (don't expect a nice one), or you may wish to have a private plate registered straght away...

Cost £25 to register vehicle
Road tax (make sure they don't over charge you for ur rotary)

Depending on whcih VRO you choose, can take anything from 2 days to 2 weeks for a plate & tax disc to be allocated...V5 will follow shortly..

I have already spoken to Sam, but just to add to the list for anyone reading this you also need the deregistration document from japan. An Englsih and Japanese version.

yup sorry both de-regs as well....

best to take photocopies of the docs, as you only get the MOT cert back...
